    mymph lets see em
u can rioll em alot to round em out but i just let miner be
a few are flat some of the flkat 1's took in a nifty spiral
i personaly like some of my flatter ones best
but if ya really dont like em palm roll when theyre wet
theyre more complaint then and willskowly reshgape

to encoursage them to grow more rounded frimn the base slide a peyote stitch or bead up close ro the roots as u can
or a ring works too as ling as it dont got any features that'll grab othger dreads (like the prongs that hold stones in)

I have a question. I could be totally lame for not getting this, but please enlighten me:

When new growth comes in, is it advised to twist/rub/whatever? What I am getting at is, if I just let my hair do it's thing naturally, will I wind up with (for example) 5 inches of straight growth, or will it dread on it's own, by growing into the preexisting dreads? Or does that growth then need to dread on it's own?

I hope that made sense. I do appreciate any reasonable answers.

its advised not to twist or rub you can if you want but its not needed and over doing it can dammage haikr some even have twisted theyre dreads right off
the hair will knot just fine if left alone
but u will always have about an inch undreaded thats normsal it gives them toom to move and as it grows movement creates dreads

My dreadies are about 3 months old. They are developing nicely but have lots of loopy bits. I've recently put some more bands in at the roots to hold them together, is this a good idea or should I take them out?

    take them off
at 3 months your dreads are infants they need to crawl before they walk meanning to become mature and tighten into real dreads they need freedom to move to loop to go a lil crazy its what they must do to reach maturity
bands shouldnt be in yoiur hair at all except maybe rthe 1st day
after that they only hurt you
they can melt and rot or be swa;lowed in a week
    removing them rips hairs

    your dreadsneed to be free
the less u worry about thekm the more beautiful they'll be

dr bronners 18 in 1 magic soap diluted 12 parts water 1 part dr b its also the putrest and most biodegradable
however if u have oily hair its not the best
any other type though it rocks
if oily.. baking soda in water tea tree oil and sea salt and lemmin juice read the wax sticky 1st few psages are the deep cleanse formula

Aww thanks guys! :) That makes me feel really happy.

Since getting them I can imagine not havin them any more, but they are frustrating sometimes. They are a bit wild and do what they want! Now I just wash them in DreadHeadHQ shampoo and use some locking gel. But I was thinking of switching to some Dr Bronner's shampoo and just using that. But they do feel a bit dry sometimes. Any advice please?

Just wanted to come back and let everyone know that the deep clean definitely works!!
My hair is shining and smells wonderful.
I noticed how bad I needed to do something when I was in the car and my hair was blowing in the wind when I noticed all these little flaky things flying in the wind as well. It was coming from my hair. GROSS! How sexy is dandruff and soap scum and god knows what else flying from your hair?!
So I did the deep cleanse after doing some google work.

My initial reaction was, well, this deep cleanse is for people with caucasian hair textures.

    WRONG!

So, I modified the recipe slightly...

I used apple cider vinegar as I had no lemons.
I grabbed some fresh lavender from the garden and some fresh tyme. For frangrance and for anti bacterial properties.
I got a huge pot, and boiled my water first, adding in the sea salt.
Turned the water of and threw in my package of herbs and lavender. Let that steep for well over an hour.
Added the baking soda. Stirred until dissolved, then added a little bit more.
Added the apple cider vinegar, and then added a little bit more. About 1/2 a cup in a two gallon solution. Heated the water up again. then took the whole pot to the bathtub, set it in the tub and leaned over and put all my hair in it. Took a cup and started pouring the solution over my head, over and over till it was soaked.
Wrapped some towels around my head and let it sit for about an hour all while massaging the solution into my scalp.
Took a shower and rinsed it out. Water was really gray for a while, I knew it was the stuff coming out.
Rinsed with pretty warm water, after I finished rinsing, I poured a cup of apple cider vinegar over the whole thing and lightly rinsed the hair again, let this sit for about 10 minutes then rinsed it all again.

MAN, THIS FEELS GREAT!!!! Hair is smelling fantastic, looks great and I can shake my hair all I want with no stuff flying from it.

Now, just so everyone knows, I wash my hair at a minimum of 3 times a week to keep my dandruff under control... Some of the stuff coming out of my hair is probably shampoo residue... No more poo for me, this is the thing I will do from here out!

Many many thanks for such a great forum and for the person who figured out this cleanse!!
