i dont think thats true...i had a beautiful set of dreads before that i grew with wax and they looked as beautiful as dreads grown without wax and done naturally...and when i cut them open they werent white inside or anything...they just looked like matted hair.

How about you just do what you want to do then and stop complaining/whining? I mean, it sounds as if you think you know what you're talking about.

    Suit yourself.

wow..holy cow....all i meant was that it irratates me a bit when people automatically oppose the waxing method and havent even tried it or done the research..i didnt mean to offend u at all....i just get a bit cranky when i suggest things and others automatically say its wrong without proof***PeAcE***

matters on the ammount and type of wax you're meaning. if its beeswax, its awful for your hair (and i'm not trying it, cause i know it wont come out of the middle). if its non-beeswax and you use it very sparingly and only when old wax is gone, its ok.

though i'm all for the loose hairs showing.. its more beautiful in my opinion. but to each their own.

I think most people who tell people NOT to use wax...say it for a reason. You say in almost every thread that wax isn't bad. Only it IS BAD! I don't know how many times people have to say it! It doesn't DREAD your hair...it goops it together...knots form when hair is able to move freely..if your hair is covered in wax...how can it move freely?

Anyone with Caucasian dreadlocked hair will tell you it's not good for it...so instead of saying the same thing over and over....why don't you take our advice?

i have had dreads b4..i used wax...i rinsed the wax out with vinegar(which does work btw) and my dreads were more knotted up than alot of peoples ive seen.
I have seen natural dreads and waxed...ive tried both...the wax knots your hair up much faster than just letting it go...and i dont like the idea of having a headful of crappy looking hair for years....the wax will set and seal the dreads..and yes it is suppose to be used sparingl;y ..not gobs at a time...if u dont have some kind of conditioner for your dreads they will break and snap your hair off completly...ive seen it happen before. beeswax is not awful for your hair...it helps keep your hair from snapping off and keeps backcombed hair in place and yes it does start forming knots after about a week...just because a couple have a difference of experience doesnt mean one is wrong and one is right....it just means they differ on it!

beeswax is horrible for your hair. on the off chance that i need to get my ply aways down, i use tea tree wax. beeswax can cause huge problems over time.

The wax may have been removed from the OUTSIDE of your dreads, but do you have any idea of what the INSIDE looks like? Wax doesn't allow for your hair to expel oils...therefore, it builds up on the inside...dirt and oil is attracted to wax, as well.

So i guess the reason you have dreads is for vanity reasons? Most people do it naturally FOR A REASON...because we don't CARE about vanity. I don't care what my hair looks like, it's a spiritual experience for me. I don't spend HOURS on my hair...because I don't NEED to. And what's the definition of "crappy" hair? I mean...what might look crappy to you, might look beautiful to someone else. I mean, if you're that vain...that seems like you're own problem.

There are TONS of people in these forums who will tell you that wax is bad...FOR A REASON. You don't need wax to condition your dreads...you just need the right kind of shampoo....my boyfriend has had dreads for five years...they are healthy and long...without using wax.

lmfao...vain?...u must not know much about me...i am one of the least vain people youd ever meet... although some of us have jobs that require the hair to be more neat and tidy...and wax can be great for keeping hair in place....and shampoo...well i only use all natural handmade soaps on my hair...i dont trust any other soaps that are manufactured....and i have cut open my last set of dreads to look at the inside...and to my surprise...it just looked like matted hair.no wax or anything...i have ALOT of people in my life with dreads....i even took advice b4 i grew my first set of dreads...and they all told me to find a wax product to work into my hair to make sure it wouldnt break...so i did and i wouldnt do it any other way...if u use a blowdryer to melt down the wax it does not build up...u are only supposed to use a small amount and then melt it to work like a conditioner, not as a product to goop your hair together....i am not totally against natural dreads....i have had a set of natural dreads....they got waay to dry for me so i starting waxing them, and they were much better. i am not against natural dreads nor am i trying to push wax,.....i am only sharing the experiences i have had personally. open minds for all makes for a better conversation :)

Okay, can't we all just agree to disagree on this one, and leave it at that? Obviously, those of us here who are vehemently against the use of wax have our reasons. And the next time someone brings it up, we'll go through all of this again. SDL obviously has had her own personal experience that somehow doesn't match up with those of the rest of us - that's great for her, and if wax works and it's what she wants, more power to her. I don't necessarily think it's needed to come on here just to undermine the experience of dozens of other people who have well-rounded experience with dreads, but now can we at least agree that everyone's said their part?
    - Some people (many would say MOST caucasian people) have very serious problems with wax, and as far as most of the ppl up here are concerned, natural is the way to go!
    - Some ppl swear by the use of wax, have had only good experiences, and wouldn't have it any other way. It probably isn't worth anybodies energy to try and convince these people otherwise.

I'm starting to miss my old siggy - "Arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics - Even if you win you're still retarded!"

These are my 4th dread locks(with an age over a year) and my first time without any wax or work on my hair. As facts about wax stands, before it slowed down locking progress a lot and made my hair slippery. I like it more now, and I love how they feel. Dry, soft, thick and clean. Each on their own. [IMG]

Anyway, back to the business, back to Q&A.. [IMG]

How people grow Aloe Vera for hair care? I have one on my window ledge and don't know how to grow it to be a huge bush so tips would be nice, thanks.

Hi, this is my 1st post so I apologise if its in the wrong place . . . .

    This is my situation . . .
I'm 14 with 8-9" slightly wavey hair, my summer hols is coming up and I want to get dreads as they are simply sweet, but its likely I will have to chop em off when I go back to school or risk getting suspended (my school is really pickie about hair). So do u think it would be worth getting em for about 6 weeks?

    Thanks
    Greg

I was about to say that direct sunlight outside will burn an aloe plant to a crisp, but Shaga is in Finland, so that may not apply.... LOL

escaping hairs are just part of the process. Sometimes they can be palmrolled into a nearby established dread or just hold them with a bead until it all dreads together.

six weeks isn't long enough to even start to have dreads. It's a long process, takes years before they are established. I wouldn't bother.

not if its backcombed. which would be the way to do it if you want them for just that long.

Does touching your hair slow down the process of dreadlocking?
