There is no practical use for heavy weapons like that. Guns are simple to use, have practical purposes in hunting and self defense and people can generally be trusted with them not to make some kind of epic mistake that would kill thousands of people. "Shit my neighbour I think might rape me and has a gun, I should get a gun" vs "Shit, my neighbour is crazy and has a cruise missile, I should get a cruise misssile" *2 weeks later* "huh, wonder what this does" *cruise missile flies into local skyscraper*

Our use of nuclear weapons in WW2 can't be an acceptable argument for not letting other countries get them. Not to mention our use of nuclear weapons in the end saved hundreds and thousands of both Japanese and American lives, even after the 1st bomb the Japanese government was heavily divided on surrender.

Well, most gun control proposals are to take out guns that are heavy weapons and impractical for legitimate use. Use a fully automatic machine gun against against a rapist in your home, and you just might kill the kids in the other room. Use a sawed-off shotgun on a deer, and the wider spray might hit your buddy standing beside you and a little forward. Killing a home invader with a silenced gun in order to help you get away with burying his body in the basement turns a self-defense case into something impractically macabre.

Maybe other countries would like the opportunity to save lives by killing tens of thousands.

No one would use an automatic machine gun against a rapist, to difficult to carry, however for sport at shooting ranges they can be awesome.

"Sawed off" shotguns do have substanitally more regulation because of this
Well if you're burying the guy who "broke into" your house, well something would be fishy with your story all of a sudden. There's plenty of practical reasons for having a silencer, for example people who go to shooting ranges a lot may not feel like hearing their gun fire constantly.

Again, when your analogy doesn't involve what we did in WW2 after 50 million people around the globe had died, then it can make more use. The general agreement among countries both nuclear and non nuclear is the less nuclear weapons in the world the better. India and Pakistan got nukes, and had a nuclear race, and awesome, 2 countries on the verge of war constantly each having about 80 warheads

So the occasional schoolyard that gets mowed down in crossfire is okay because of teh kewl?

Have you seen video of mushroom clouds? They're fucking awesome! WANT.

Earmuffs are practical. Not going to a range works fine for me, too. :D

The United States is constantly at or on the verge of war.

Clearly we can disregard all of the votes for 1 and all of the votes for 10... those people weren't actually willing to think about the question. In what's left over, 6 and 7 are cleaning up. Sounds about right.

    we aint all socialists here.

I guess it depends what people are comparing him to. I mean, you can either go for a scale of 10=best president ever to 1=worst president ever, or 10=best THING ever to 1=worst thing ever...

Or you can give him a 1 for being Ron Paul because there wasn't an option lower than zero.

I think it's to early to vote on success rate of someone in office for such a short period of time.
It takes a long time to clean up the crap wether it's Obama or anyone else.

Neither of the major political parties in the US can ever seriously be described as anything approaching "socialist". If you're dismissing Obama on those grounds, you're an idiot. Just sayin'.

    I'll give him a 7.

He hasn't totally rocked and he needs to get the ball rolling. I haven't seen much on Marijuana issues, ending The War, among other topics.

BUT... He seems to be trying for the most part. He is far better then Bush. I'm still not sure if everything will be decent(like the '90s). But I'm optimistic.
