Poor treatment of people who deserve it always, literally always, devolves into poor treatment for anyone the judge doesn't like, who can't pay, who the government sees as undesirable, who doesn't have the cops "fee", etc etc etc. Maybe you've never been in a jail cell. I have. If it was remotely "posh", it would not make up for the sense of helplessness, dread, fear, dispair, and slight panic that is created by being in a cinder-block and steel cage, at the mercy of people who not only don't care for you, but, even if you are innocent, would not bat an eyelash if you died. Not posh. It's "three hots and a cot" when you could get arrested for drifting, get locked up, and get out 2 days later, and go to the next town and do the same thing. In a modern, and realistic, sense, it's panicy and full of adrenaline at nothing, very mentally wearing even after five minutes, and "three hots" consists of lukewarm inedible beans and shriviled hot-dogs, and water.
South Africa. Zulu culture is horribly patriarchal, and so many of the men are unemployed they dominate wherever they can. I met one woman there who didn't even want to report a rape because "it wasn't a very bad rape." WTF.
I hate to break this to you, but when dealing with people of this nature, the vast majority of times you cannot teach good behavior no matter what you do, because these people are sociopaths--they have no ability to empathize. How the hell do you teach compassion for someone that completely lacks empathy? We bond and connect and sympathize with people via our brain--and not all brains are created equal. Their neurons do not connect in the same way that ours do. These people do not rape because they lack positive role models--modeling compassion won't do shit other than further society's message that rape isn't really a big deal and just deserves a slap on the wrist (or a pat on the back). I do agree, however, the punishment should be the same no matter the gender of the victim.
I agree with strawberry. No cure for bad brain wiring, except to either kill them or lock them up forever. These types need to be sorted out and dealt with. Hopefully, this will begin to change the way women are treated everywhere. But I'm not too optimistic about it.
It's not a kind of person, it's a society that has taught many millions of people a system similar to jim crow america, where those of a lower caste are not even human. Especially in such a corrupt and fucked up country, you can't give all that power to cops or judges, it won't stop the rape, it will just allow malicious prosecution in some cases, and the current type of selective prosecution in others. You can't have a legal system that just considers them to be of a different nature and un-helpable, because this legal system needs to fit everyone, and can't encourage or allow legal mistreatment or abuse of others, at the discression of the law. An indian cop, who has been raised on the some crap as those who rape those of other castes, might see raping an untouchable as less serious than stealing cable or some shit..... It's not going to bring the hammer down on rapists, but on everyone the cops don't like.
Years after people are executed in the United States for crimes they supposedly committed, we get DNA proof that they were innocent. As citizens of a democratic state we are all indirectly responsible for their deaths. This castration punishment is much worse than execution in my eyes, and with the inherently flawed nature of all criminal justice systems you are supporting the castration of innocent people.
Actually, antisocial personality disorder is fascinating, what people used to call sociopath. It isnt actually the brain, but problems with development of the central nervous system. That is they develop physically so that the body doesnt handle pain and response to emotions like everyone else. Grow up not fully understanding what everybody is on about when they feel pain as the same thing isnt as serious to them, less likely to be empayhetic if they yhink everybody is overplaying it. And this can be cause by trauma to parts of tje body. So having their father beat them with a wrench can cause developmental problems to their spine and neural system so the end up with certain behaviours, which may have a more physical base than pywchological. I.e someone when younger did bash them stupid. The guys in the case on the bus in india, werent sociopaths, thery acted as a group a sociopath would work alonel they were, and Im using the medical term, simply complete cunts
I fully agree with etherea & pensfan13. The brutality of this particular act should be dealt with equally severe punishment which should send jitters down the spine of anyone even thinking to commit such ghastly acts. Agreed it wont stop it 100% but even of 5 out of 10 deter from committing crimes on woman, that is a big achievement. Agreed, peoples mindset has to be changed. In India especially, women curtail the growth of women also, in caste & dowry cases. A movement is required & if media & internet is able to bring about that then so be it. People need to evolve & a precedent needs to set even through fear factor & harsh punishment. Yes most cases go unreported, most cases conviction does not happen, cases lie idle in courts for years, witnesses are manipulated etc. But I hope, This case can bring about the urgency to implement the existing laws & fast track the cases especially against woman harassment & rape.
Well said that man! International pressure needs to be kept up until the judicial system is seen to be doing its job! I'm not talking about paying lipservice, I'm talking about harsh sentencing across the board and most importantly................... a system where women are not frightened to come forward and report sexual or sexually motivated crimes!
As a fellow Indian, I agree that this very tragic. May God and peace be with her family and her boyfriend that tried to defend her. I'm so embarrassed that there are even people (a female doctor) that have blamed this poor girl for being Westernized and being out with a man at 10 pm. Give me a break. But, I have experienced Indians being in complete denial of the status of women. Some would scoff at the idea of women being seen as inferior or call us women crazy for daring to stand up to abuse/oppression, but this horrific atrocity symbolizes the brutality of it all. How can one just look away and act like nothing is happening? I don't believe counseling will do any good for these monsters. They may deceive and manipulate. I side with what the victim's family wants, and they want them to be hanged...so they can't hurt another human being again.
Hmmmm...you have to be careful. I agree that castration would be a deterrent. Even agree with physical castration. But I had a few nights stand with a girl. Her boyfriend was overseas. When the boyfriend got back she accused me of raping her. It was very far from the truth. So nothing happened, but it was scary. If there was a threat of being castrated I would have been freakin' out.
