Rant about litter!

The worst thing is when you walk in the forest and you see a huge pile of beer bottles, plastic bags, condoms, ect. There is a parc near my home and you can't walk a meter without seing junk on the ground.

 

Yeah... I guess I should pick it up...

 

You live in Colorado too? One thing I noticed about Colorado when I lived there was how clean it was.. A lot more cleaner than some of the other places I've lived (Arizona, Nevada, Kentucky, even San Fransisco!)

 

God, I hate when people litter. At school, people won't even move 2 metres to their left to put a plastic wrapper in the bin. But I'm apparently a good influence on people b/c when I'm around, people won't litter b/c they know I'll have a hissy fit at them. Hehe! Another thing that pisses me off is smokers flicking their cigarette butts out windows (especially when they hit you in the face with it). Also, one time, I was going to someone's house and on the way there I saw a 6 pack ring thingy so I stop and get some scissors out and cut it up and they were like "Oh, I saw that, I was just to lazy to do anything about it.". Goddamnit! These days everyone are acting like being lazy is a good thing (and people say it while flirting with someone way too much. Don't ask me what is so attractive about being lazy. I don't know)! It would take you 30 seconds to pick it up, cut it up and put it in a bin. Hello? Ever heard of a planet?

 

When my kid was little I'd pile him and his friends into my Vee Dub bus and drive them to the beach. In order for them to get a ride back home they had to pay me with 5 pieces of litter each that they picked up from the beach. They all thought that was very cool. Teach em while they are young, that it doesn't take much. They could see the little things they picked up added up to a pile.

Hahaha! I have noticed that too! In less than a year, all personal adds will read something like this:
I am a single (race) (gender), seeking (gender) companionship. I enjoy sitting around a cozy fire watching movies, my gosh, I am soo lazy!

 

LOL Rayne! I know! No wonder they are single. And LuvHuffer, that's really cool what you do with the kids!

CAPTAIN PLANET! They should bring that back to TV! He was heaps rad.

 

Grab the plastic bag, and put the trash you see in it! My kids and I always go on garbage hunts. They always throw other people's trash away. In the words of my 7yo "I don't want my country to look like a trash dump!"

 

I live in Green Bay, the litter problem is huge. Most of the litter ends up in the Fox River. Which then dumps into the Bay and then into lake michgan. I've been writing to the mayor that we should put fliters in the dam to collect some of the litter. I've had no response.

 

true sugrmag.....don't bitch about the ways of man do something active to reverse his ways....I have noticed over the years;

"You need not put up a city dump sign in order to acquire garbage,instead just post a "No Dumping" sign,man's inconsiderate ways will do the rest."

 

i hate it when you see people throwing litter out of the car window when they're driving along the road. I'd prefer they filled the floor of their car with crap rather than the fields and hedgrows on the roadside - and that stuff never gets cleaned up by the council.
At a school near me they have litter inspectors from the council waiting around at the end of school outside the gates and if a kid drops litter thay get a £50 fine.

 

Once, I was in my backyard, I saw a hospital transport bus driver stop by the side of my house (I live on the corner), open its door, and throw her fast food garbage into my yard. I was pissed. I ran into the road cussing, but of course she didn't stop. I got the number of the bus, and called her supervisor. He made her come back and clean all of the garbage from my yard. I live on a very busy corner, so I am constantly cleaning shit out of my yard. Beer cans, fast food garbage, etc.

 

I remember back in the day, they were having a big garbage collector strike in NYC, and big piles of garbage were everywhere. Then I read about this lady who was gift wrapping her garbage and leaving it in her unlocked car for a few hours. It would get stolen rather quickly. I thought that was soooooo cool! Now of course I realize that it was probably getting opened and left where it laid. So it wasn't really a solution as much as an escape from her responsibility to the planet, and a shifting of responsibility to someone who by their acts have no responsibility at all. I'm OCD'd so bad about recycling and litter, I even carry my cigarette butts around in my pocket till I can find a recepticle somewhere to toss them. It really pisses me off when I forget about them and end up having my laundry full of tobacco. <g>

 

Yea i hate it when people do that. It makes me so ma! I mean whats the point why litter. It's stuped!!!!

 

I have seen situations like this. Compleely dumping stuff on the ground (as in the original post) can say a LOT about a person's lifestyle. When I see trash on the side of the road, i get angry. What makes people think they can just dump their shit for the rest of the world to pick up.
This isn't even a "hippie" issue or anything. It is basic decency. If you see someone dumping their stuff on the ground, you can probably surmise that they have no respect for other things in their lives. Besides that, I don't understand how people throw things from their car, etc. It's not like you won't benear a trash can when you stop your car! I can't stand when people litter. it just makes me think they are scummy slobs. What goes off in someone's brain that allows them to think "I am going to throw my trash out of this moving vehicle" !?! It's nuts. The fact that is is 100% avoidable makes it worse.

 

littering is one of my biggest petpeves in the universe. its strang how so many people think so little of it like its a part of life. i have been riding in my car with friends or others that start to throw trash out the car window we will go back and pick it back up or they will not get a ride the rest of the way they will walk. also, in kansas if you are seen littering by a police officer you will be fined 500 dollars per item and can become a habitual offender if caught enough times. i love that. that money goes to pay city workers. we also have a huge adopt a highway program that works amazingly here. and prisoners of the city and county jails are taken out to pick up litter. I am glad we have started some really good things where i live.

 

I really don't like litter. Yesterday when I was in the woods all day, I noticed so much litter around where we were sitting.. And bicycles and a tire in the river/pond thing. We were joking about how you just have to stare straight ahead of you to enjoy the nature hah.

 

I was at a bus stop a few weeks ago and a couple had just come out of a food store. They stood next to a garbage bin, then began snacking on some chips, then when they finished the bag they threw it on the ground. They did the same thing with a cigarette plastic wrapper and two chocolate bar wrappers.

I picked up everything.

Seriously, whats wrong with some people?
It scares me that I live amongst people who just don't give a shit about anything but themselves.
