Atheism is LACK OF THEISM. It is not not not a belief system or religion. You DISBELIEVE in theism because there is no EVIDENCE.

THEISM makes a universal claim, ATHEISM doubts this claim.

 

No, atheism is a belief system, it's the belief of the incorrectness of theism or somesuch. You sure do get defensive dontcha?

Nope. I LACK belief in any gods.

I don't "believe" there is no god. To believe something means you have to have some sort of reason, I hate to use the word evidence (but, so be it), and I have no evidence to believe there is no god.

I lack belief because of lack of reason for the belief.

Atheism is the absence of belief in a deity.
Agnosticism is the absence of knowledge.

I am not debating KNOWING there are any gods.
I stated that I lack BELIEF in any gods and I do.

 

evidence and belief are two words shouldnt be in the same sentence..

 

The Symbolic existence of God reveals the collective Pathos shared by an entire culture.

We deny the Symbolic existence of God to absolve ourselves of any responsibility for the Pathos that are revealed by that Symbolism.

Just like Fundamentalist who likewise deny God's Symbolism, and absolve themselves of responsibility by pointing to God's Literal Authority.

Either way is a cop-out for those of us who do NOT want to strip our Symbolic-Selves naked and reveal the hairy-smelly impulses of our Primate Motivations.

The Symbolical reveals the hidden collective-unconscious motivating roots behind the superficial Literal message.
