i agree. That's why I'm quite interested in the crypto-currency thing, especially Bitcoin, as I see it as a possible new model for a de-centralized and government free money system. It has the potential to empower millions of people in third world countries who have no access to banking. It could prove to be a game changing thing.

If you did want but Bitcoin, this is a good time, as it has recently gone down in price, although it is now going up once more. I have a few Bitcoins, and if I were to sell now, I'd still get more than 70% profit from my original investment. But I'm not planning on selling any time soon. I'm actually going to be buying more over the next couple of months..

If you do intend to buy any, I would highly recommend that you find out all about security and such issues before you act. I'd be happy to help if you need advice.

According to Greenwich time: with the google skills, huh? There is art and there is heart, for the one heart is the waiting for the new law of the Universe.

i do believe it will pump soon [฿], 3 weeks maybe?

always encrypt wallet with at least 16 pseudorandom characters as a passphrase (brute force that bitch...see ya in a couple eons ;)).. just don't ever lose the passphrase cuz it's gone for good [your wallet] if you do.

probably a good idea to make backups of your wallet.dat file also .. (it's in ~/.bitcoin or %APPDATA%\Roaming\bitcoin) .. probably a really good idea to have something like a usb flash drive for storing only wallet.dat files ..

my wallet.dat file is only like 80K so it doesn't take a very big storage device to back them up, blockchain however is pretty freakin big 25204892K currently (about 25 gigabytes!)

Good advice. I have now started using multibit wallet, which I have installed on a flash drive. I store all my coins offline, and I don't really trust any online wallet to hold my coins. If I were going to trade, I'd send any coins in my exchange wallet straight into cold storage as soon as I'd concluded trading.

But I'd just like to re-emphasize your point about backing everything up, and ensuring you have a secure record of all paraphrases, mnemonics and passwords. Otherwise someone could loose all their BTC and have no redress.

downloading the entire blockchain can get old. i think i may try copying the contents of ~/.bitcoin/blocks to a seperate partition and replace ~/./blocks with a symlink linking to the blockchain in another directory on a seperate partition elsewhere, that way each wallet wouldnt need its own copy of the blockchain. seem like it should work. would be good if you run multiple OS on the same machine, or just want the blockchain in a seperate partition so u never have to worry about it again

haven't tried that yet tho but i suspect it'll work

(this is for bitcoin-qt btw .. not sure where other wallets would put stuff, or if cross-wallet [ex. using same blockchain for different wallet software like bitcoin-qt and multibit sharing blockchain] symlinking to the blockchain would work). Probably could even share blockchain with windows bitcoin-qt if you made a MSDOS filesystem on the partition you store the blockchain on. It breaks the blockchain up into 1GB chunks so FAT32 file size limits shouldn't be an issue there.

if you want absolute anonymity with bitcoin, use a proxy, or set up TOR and point ur wallet's proxy at TOR's SOCKS listener (port 9050 default)

Ahhh it sounded like a county fair type thing but just completely different events.

I raced my turtle in a county fair...fastest box turtle you ever saw...but in the second round they went against snappers...dumb, you should never mix land turtles against water turtles...thats like racing an olympian against a high school track winner

Hey bitcoin guys. I read somewhere the other day that they want to tax bitcoins, or something.

I also read that they say if you buy something worth $2 with $1 worth of bitcoin, it's a monetary gain of $1 for you.

I went to look for that article just now, but ran into this instead.. Whistleblower: Fed “Highly Alarmed” About Bitcoin Conquering Dollar System
    http://www.infowars.com/whistleblower-fed-highly-alarmed-about-bitcoin-conquering-dollar-system/

You're all probably aware of this, I'm sure. I'm just posting this in case anyone didn't know.

I read a few weeks ago about someone buying something like a $160,000 plot of land in Nevada with bitcoins, so my ears have been up about them lately.

There are so many great mysteries in the world that intrigue me.
Who was really Jack the Ripper?
What is up with the Bermuda Triangle?
    What happened to Malaysia 370?
What is the deal with Shroud of Turin?
    Is Loch Ness Monster real?
    How old is Moonglow181?
    Is there life after death?

Is there a connection between Jack the ripper and the Loch Ness monster?

The Ripper murders took place in 1888 and the first Nessie sighting was in 1933.

If there is any connection you’ll have to account for the 45 year gap between suspected activity - mutation?
