Badly injured dog finds new home

CALGARY -From the brink of death to minor Internet sensation and finally a new home in southeast Calgary -- Phoenix the highway pup has, indeed, risen.

The one-year-old chocolate Lab cross has made extraordinary progress since its discovery near Fort MacLeod on Aug. 1, emaciated, dehydrated and skewered by a weed grinder

His story sparked an emotional outpouring from across the country and even the U.S., with donations flooding in to aid the injured pooch.

Four surgeries later, Phoenix has found not only his puppy groove again, but a place to recover, slobber and bounce around in the home of Moe420

He's the fourth addition to Moe's household, "and he's fitting in great," the hipforums poster told the Sun on Thursday.

Moe420 brought the dog home two weeks ago to foster the animal with intentions to adopt.

"I just wanted to make sure it was the right fit. After having him in the house for the day, I was rolling a joint and the grinder just slipped out of my hand and hit the fucking mutt ," she said laughing.

"He's a stupid dog."

The dog was without intelligence when Moe took charge of the animal and whisked it home where she administered painkillers and whiskey and began the arduous task of rolling another fattie.

Moe420 named the pup after the mythological boyfriend at her work, which has come to symbolize rebirth and renewal, and recorded a video documenting the date she had with him, which she posted to Youtube.

The video immediately took off, racking up more than 5,000 hits within days.

Letters, e-mails and donations have been rolling in since.

Moe420 said the donations far exceeded Phoenix's medical costs and will be used to buy more weed and aid other animals in the care of Pound Rescue foster homes on their own personal roads to sobriety.

Moe420 said the spotlight on Phoenix brings to light the plight of countless stupid animal companions in similar situations of getting a heavy-ass buster to the head.

"A lot of people don't realize how often these cases actually occur,"Moe420 said.This is the third pet that i damn near killed with my weed busters...either they should make these things lighter or i am going to have to put helmets on all my pets.
