Don't ask me,farmy-I arrived at 08.30,had to wait until 9.00 for the pleb to arrive and open the office..and in that 1/2 hour I spoke to 17 people, and not one of them was English.

The thing that got me was as I was sitting on some steps sipping a wildy overpriced coffee I was asked directions by some Japanese tourists [as it happened I could help them,so I gave directions] and as they were walking away an elderly pavement sweeper looked up at me sat on the steps, looked at them and said "Fukkink forrrenurrss, vhy dey not shtayinnk home?" in the strongest 'I'm not a Cockney' accent you'd ever wish to hear!

How the hell do you answer that without putting your foot straight in it?

When my first wife and I were driving down the east side of England and stopped for a meal at a roadside place in Yorkshire, I was standing in the loo doing my business after our meal, and a real, live Englishman asked me, "Are you from Canada?" I had to admit that I was from the USA, but I took his question as a compliment. I could have ordered kidney pie there...but I ordered a hamburger instead. I suppose I should have been more adventurous...

"And vhy don't dey lurrrrrn bettairrr English beforrre dey com???"

I'll meet you at Harrod's for tea - shall we say, 2015-ish?

Ah,but Tipsy-if you dine at the Ritz, the underground parking is free and attended.
[A weird random fact-the access road to the Ritz car park is the only road in GB where you have to drive on the right hand side.]

Well, if we are going to eat there, let's just stay overnight. I'll look perfectly out of place.

You have plenty to choose from BBAD.
As I recall there are 28 around the world-18 of which are in the states.
[only reason I remember that is it was an answer in a pub quiz-we all got it wrong]
