I want both solar and wind... but privately owned.

    Fuck the grid.

Power was out here for about 3 hours today... When the power is out I don't even have water. I wouldn't have that problem if I generated my own power.

i bought a nice little honda generator last year for $100

guy said it didnt work but runs good...i took a chance and all it needed was to adjust the speed a tad...i figure the screw vibrated out a bit and they are very dependent on exact adjustment on those models for voltage regulation

its just a small one ...nice and quiet for camping but will run a drill ok

    same as this one

Well, that's a good thing to keep around regardless. I kind of wish I had one.

I was at our county auction a good number of years ago and bought a dump truck and a huge trailer. On the trailer (and sole separately) was a very large generator. I don't remember a lot about it except for that it retailed for something like $18k-$20k....maybe more. I think it had less than 30 hours on it and they said something was wrong with it. I don't remember what it was but I remember thinking they were wrong and it was probably something silly like a bad ground. It looked new and it sold for maybe $350. I would have bid on it but didn't have the room to store it back then. A farmer got it and I just had one of my guys deliver it to his farm since it wasn't very far and it was already loaded. It's good that I didn't buy it though because.....looking back.....if I didn't fix it and sell it.....I wouldn't have ever used it even one single time between then and now.

I would need bigger than that to run my well... And if it's winter time I also need to run the blower on the furnace or it could overfire. That generator would run the blower fine, that doesn't take much power, but it's necessary to keep it pushing air.

I'd rather just generate my own power but not tie it into the grid.

those big ones are kind of useless unless you need to run a small town

yeah that ones only good for maybe 5amp at 110v

there is also an onan 6.5k here but we dont use it...last time i remember running it was during that big east coast blackout

you should find one that makes 220v ...then make a special extension to get gen power into the stove or dryer socket....then when the power is out you flip the mains off and plug it in and fire the gen up to backfeed the whole house

He has a fairly large farm operation. I bet that generator is plenty to power his house and out-buildings during power outages. I kind of want to say it was a diesel generator but I just don't remember exactly what it was....except that it was a pretty big motor that was running it.

Oh yeah....we got over 4 inches of rain since late Saturday evening. Crazy. Imagine if that would have been snow instead. 10-12 inches of snow for every inch of rain. We would be screwed right now.

Right...and...you know....the environment is totally the same as it was 30 years ago. It's just a natural cycle. Normal shit.

We have rural roads closed around here too. I didn't go to work today but I'm sure I'll see enough tomorrow.

My wife was actually kind of irritated that I didn't go to work today. We even had a few choice words about it but the problem wasn't really me. It was more things that were bothering her about her job.

Man... There's an old Cushman Truckster on eBay. Looks like a 60's model. Runs and drives but it's pretty beat looking with 3200+ hours on the clock. Starting bid is 99 cents and it's gonna go cheap.

I have no way to go get it.

I think I bought our generator new for about 300 bucks. It works great and I've had to use it a couple of times. It runs the water well, which takes a lot of power, and the refrigerator and the freezer. All the important stuff.

I do have to remember to start it every six months or so to keep it in shape. Not sure, why... but letting it sit for a year means a struggle on a stormy night to get it running.

    old fuel

try to use ethanol free fuel in stuff that sits ..it helps in the long run
