I went to Michael's craft store during a long break between games. I got some things for the 3 Winter cemetery arrangements. Gulp. Good thing that there was a half price sale.

I stacked my wood in a south to north line so the westerly and easterly wind will help keep it clear of snow and help dry....also for the sun exposure

    however

this afternoon I am expecting 90kph winds.....we didn't stack it as steady as I would have liked....too many different size pieces...but I spose this aft we will find out how sturdy it is

By probably most standards her prices are high but you are paying for quality. She presents at art festivals and has an open house in May and November. She has won many awards and even has some pieces photographed in books. I don't go to the festivals any more and just go directly out to her house when she has the open houses. You can also make an appointment to go out to her house/gallery during the year if she is home. I have never done that.

I have purchased from her for the last 20 years so have quite a few pieces. Early on I bought mostly red bowls (picture a large cereal/rice bowl maybe 6-7 Inches across the top) Those are about $45-55 depending on how large. The smaller pieces like the spoons are $15, smaller bowls, mugs can be around $20-25. Larger pieces can be $100-250. I think the highest I have gone is $100. The last several years I have been purchasing lots of her other glazes browns and greens. She has an online site if you search Peachblow pottery.

For my budget they are expensive but this is my birthday month and next month Christmas so I tend to save up during the year and buy something of beauty for me.

I am a fiber artist but I did try pottery at Cornell in the70's. I still have a few of the pieces I made (not so good, but I made them). I grew to appreciate pottery and found her when I moved to Ohio.

That is way more than you wanted to know but there it is.

Forgot to say that she is also a bee keeper and usually has honey to sell but since she is only in her current location 2 years she did not have any to sell this time.

I gave my kiln away last week and all the glazes and tools and crap I'd collected over the years. (dang computer twitched and decided to do italics.. mmmrrffmmr)

I enjoyed pottery but I'm getting rid of stuff that no longer suits my life. I have a friend who brought me a walking stick that he'd hand-carved with Celtic knots. He's an amazing carver and his eyes lit up when I explained (and there went the italics... gremlins in my computer??) that he could do the same sort of intricate carving in clay. I sent the kiln home with him. Can't wait to see what he creates.

And yeah.. red pottery isn't all that common because the glazes you often have to use can't be in the kiln with any other glazes or the mix of gas causes really nasty things to happen. I ended up having to throw away an entire kiln load AND the shelves of the kiln before I learned that one. I think the new reds aren't as critical as they used to be, though... and you get a true red.

More than you wanted to know about pottery, right? Too bad. heh.

Sometimes passing on the craft is more important than doing the craft.

Wow beautiful designs and pottery is something you not only have forever but you can pass that down to someone you want to have it. It is always a nice thing to have a treat that is just for you and you deserve it :)

No not more than I wanted to know at all. I did ceramics for years and they had stoneware there and the glazes were totally different to work with. One lady in the class did not wipe the bottom edges of one of her dishes and it stuck to the shelf. I have a feeling the owners never put anything in again without checking. :)

I agree as today there are less and less artisans that work with old techniques. It is sad that so many art forms are being lost. I have a friend who owns a turn of the century brick home but the back attached summer kitchen was log and to find someone who could work on it and chink it was a huge deal.

I remember in grade 8 someone's piece blew up inside the kiln....made a huge mess and the kiln coils were all broken and bent...kinda like they just went through an explosion......I never did get to do pottery in grade 8
