Years ago, people used to think that painting wounds and cuts on trees would seal them off. That isn't the case. Trees use a system called "compartmentalization" to seal off their own wounds. They naturally compartmentalize a wound and work around it. It's kind of like scarring almost. There are limited times where painting a wound is helpful but not often. A good example might be during the time of year where Oak Wilt is prevalent. If you have to make the cuts during that time of year, you may want to paint them. But that's mostly to keep infecting bugs away from the cut. It in no way encourages compartmentalization. That happens all on it's own.

It should be fine. Give that kid a spanking and tell him not to touch the trees like that anymore! ;)

He is concerned now. I told him it could get diseased and fall on the houses. He told me that he would pay to have it taken down. Eight years old with no father in the home. smh

He's the one that set the bushes on fire in his neighborhood.

He told me he did it to get the sap out of it.

His grandfather and uncle get him revved up watching survival shows but nobody follows through after those few minutes.

He's been told to leave his grandfather's saw alone.

He will get royally bitched out by him tomorrow.

Thanks for looking at it, Wiz.

And Ori, I knew you'd say Honey, lol

Tell him a regular tree crew costs $150-$200/hr. How many lemonades does he have to sell to cover a job like that? :)

Dropped another dead Pine today and that dead Elm... The Elm is ready to burn, dry, now cut split and stacked in the woodshed/thingy. So far I've dropped 6 trees through the same 8 foot wide gap in the tree line. Kinda like the old game "Pickup Sticks" except in reverse, and these sticks can kill you.

Near the base of this Pine I found a Spruce sapling with it's roots wrapped around a Honey Suckle that I had just cut out of the way... I was able to dig it out of there and pot it up, it came out bare root. Hope it makes it, root system seemed intact. I am in dire need of evergreen saplings... Found a few pines last week near that Ash I cut down. For now I just covered them with a milkcrate to keep the deer from munching them down. Yes they will eat evergreen saplings. Might dig those or let them grow where they are, not sure yet.

    _______________

Scored some deals on steaks today at the grocery store. Every time there is a long holiday weekend during the summer this place goes nuts stocking up on meat for "The Great American Cookout"... It never dawns on them that a lot of people don't have a few hundred bucks to drop on steaks. So a few days after they have to mark them way down and put them in this one section. I just happened to be there at the right time on the right day. Everything I got looks like it was cut yesterday... Some of the stuff I didn't get looked like it should have been tossed yesterday.

They cover their "loss" by marking up everything else in the store...

So this is completely silly.....but it would have been awesome. We had to 4x4 our way into a job site on the river bottom yesterday. It's too bad we were able to get in there that way. My back-up plan was to load gear into kayaks and float in. Of course.....we could have gone in just up-steam but it would have been better to go in about 3 hours up-stream, which would have meant that we wouldn't get the job done in one day and we would have had to do it again today. Sometimes you just miss opportunities. :(

Me: I think I'm going to have another cup of coffee before I go.

Kid: I see the "fuck it" is setting in early this Friday.

    Me: Is it that obvious?

    :)

I wish the daughter would sell this big go-cart that's sitting in my carport.

I have to hand wash my car to get the tree sap off. The tree sap is terrible and collects dirt and mildew. The white car is embarrassing to park anywhere at this point.

I will tighten things up in the two car carport so I can park the one car in there.

I want to wash the car first but I know it will end up full of sap again, quickly, if I don't deal with making a place in the carport for it. I will be smart and do this in the correct order this time.

I didn't do that any of the last several times I had to hand wash the car.

Sometimes, I act really stoooopid to be a relatively intelligent person.

Edit - Actually, it has been really, really hot here. I've been waiting on cooler weather to clean out the carport but I can't deal with this car anymore.

I'm about to once again talk myself into washing this car only, this time, and dealing with the carport when it's cooler weather.

Back in the 80's I was an avid aviation enthusiast and was very much into cold war aircraft. The General Dynamics F111 was one of my favourite aircraft at airshows back then, sadly though the F111 is no longer flying. The sheer speed, noise and performance of this aircraft was phenomenal.
I suggest you also watch this video on You Tube for a slightly better perception of this aircraft. For those of you that don't know, the F111 was a swing wing bomber built by General Dynamics in the U.S was capable of attacking a target using nuclear weapons. I am not a lover of war but of the aircraft because of the technology involved.
