I have been waiting for all these rain predictions to water the new plants I put down in the cemetery. This morning I watered them myself. If we do get rain later that will also help.

Not dry here. Looks like it's going to be raining for a while this morning. I have a doctor appointment this afternoon so going to work isn't looking very likely. My wife works for the school district so she only has to work today and tomorrow and then she's off for the summer. Part of me is always slightly envious but I'd be bored out of my skull if I had all summer off.

Do any of you happen to know what you're supposed to do after stripping paint from something? (A staircase in this case) I'm not finding an immediate answer online. Surely, there must be something to do after scraping off the paint and the stripper. A way to neutralize what's left on the wood.

This staircase had carpet. Under the carpet you can see where there was once a narrow carpet in the center of the stairs and it was painted white on the outside of that carpet. There was old tape, several hundred nails and staples, etc. I removed all of that and am now getting back down to the original wood. It's coming along well. I think I'm going to be happy with how this turns out. I took a "before" pic before I started.

Water and dish soap... Murphy's oil soap is good too. Then rinse with just water. Make sure it's fully dry before anything else.

This may raise the grain so a 220 then 320 dry sand before finish.

I used soap and water. I was mostly worried about making sure the dog was safe (in addition to wanting to do it the right way). I had to build a little barricade at the bottom of the stairs. She just wanted to come up and see what I was doing but I've got paint stripper on my skin years ago. I can only imagine how much it would hurt her paws if she ran through it.

The logical approach to me seemed to be to do the right half of all the steps and get that all cleaned up. Then do the left half so that way there is a way to walk upstairs during the process. Definitely will still have a lot of sanding to do when I'm done. It will take a while but there's no hurry.

risk of TS tonight and it sure feels like it...my knees feel like close to popping out of joint all day

something just went good....been fighting with a stuck crankshaft bolt all day....(just spending a few minutes at a time)...everyone online is using 5 to 6 foot bars on their powerbar wrench but i dont like to break stuff...3/4 electric impact is rated at 550lb but doesnt budge it so i look online and near me a guy has a 1100lb 3/4 air impact for $100 so i decide to go ahead and buy it but he doesnt answer the phone

long story short i sprayed penetrating oil evrywhere and used the floor jack (and special crank holding tool) to keep heavy pressure on the bolt for an hour...then i released the pressure and re-situated evrything and when i went to apply more pressure it popped right at the last inch of swing space (tool handles were both so bowed i didnt even want to look at them when applying pressure)

so now bolt is out and no extra moneuy spent on tools ill probably never need again

plus as a bonus the crank holding tool was not for sale anymore so i didnt have to buy it ...they had a loaner one for free use

Finished making that bracket/reinforcement/non-welded thingy for the Cub Cadet mower deck today... Cut up an old John Deere deck for the metal. If it doesn't get "BrandNameItis" it should last longer than stock. It's one hell of a lot stronger than factory even though it's full of bolts. Rebuild the spindles and finish the paintwork, it'll be done.

Still sourcing wheels for the front and tires for the back... even though I'm broke at the moment. Being broke is the time you find the best deals... and can't do anything about it. :wall:

Is there a metal recycling yard or some local scrap guys that you could hook up with? I'm sure there must be mowers, etc. being scrapped once in a while and they probably don't want the tires. Just an idea.

There is a whole freakin' herd of rabbits living around my house. There are always at least 4 or 5 and usually more out back when I go outside. You can even see the different generations. I've said before...it's a wild kingdom out there! Birds, rabbits, squirrels, ground squirrels, snakes, chickens and who knows what else. I love it! I think my favorite place in the world is my back deck....just watching them all. Most of the animals seem pretty unconcerned with my presence. They just move a few feet away if I walk past them. I think they know I'm not going to hurt them. We spend enough time out there together.

I guess if there is a flip-side to our big dog dying last spring....it's that he isn't killing off anything he can catch. I don't think we'll have another bigger dog. We love them but I love my yard and the other animals more.
