Wiz has got wood and Mrs. Wiz is getting special wood for her birthday.

 

I actually got her something pretty cool for her birthday that she's wanted for years. I'm like a little kid about it though. I'm always super excited about giving gifts and I've been asking her for a week and a half if she wants her birthday gifts early. I just told her that she could go to sleep until 12:01 and wake up and technically it would be her birthday! I guess we're going to have to wait until tomorrow.

 

Can you tell us what you got her?

 

We both used to be kind of artists back in the day and I know she's always wanted to have her own pottery wheel. So I got that for her as well as some tools, clay, etc. I hope she likes it.

It's maybe a bit of a gamble but she's very artistic. She's a stained glass artist and she got into that because I basically cattle-prodded her into it! I knew she liked the idea and would be awesome at it so I got her the lessons, the equipment and finally told her that if she wasn't going to do it...I was. Because I wanted her to learn and maybe have a new hobby and teach me how to do it. So she tried it and she was very good at it (as I expected) and she got good enough to teach an old tree guy to be half-ass decent at it.

So the glass is something I thought she would be great at but the pottery is something she's wanted to get back to since we were much younger. I thought it was a fairly good idea. But I don't always buy her stuff like this. One of my best gifts to her was a simple old clay coffee mug with a flower on it and a huge chip on the top of it. I bought it at the local Goodwill for maybe $1. I gave it to her with an note about how nobody is perfect but they can still be beautiful. That mug still sits on a wall in my house to this day.

Here I go again with another long post.....I hate doing this but I always feel the need to articulate or expand my point.

She's super happy about the pottery wheel. I told her I've been planning on buying it for her for well over 6 months. I was thinking of buying it as a Christmas gift but we were at that other house then and it just didn't seem like the right time. So I saved the idea for her birthday.

It works out in a number of ways. Our daughter was really excited about the pottery wheel and asked me if she could have it if my wife didn't like it. After my wife saw it this morning, I told my daughter "It looks like you don't get your own pottery wheel". She said "Well...I don't get my own pottery wheel!" Perfect! She'll be a teenager before we know it. We need to keep thinking of ways to keep her plugged-in and engaged with us as she gets older. My wife understood that angle right away.

dang cant even give this beer away. the yunling lager lite uke: i set it outside with some scrap metal. free beer and scrap metal. they took the metal and left the beer.

 

That's pretty damn funny!

 

Daughter (with a friend who is apparently almost my second daughter): Dad...do you want me to make you some eggs for breakfast?

Me: Um....sure....as long as you just make some regular eggs. No experimenting. No secret ingredients.

A bit later....her: Ok...here's your eggs. Regular old eggs.....except I made them with coconut oil because it's healthier for you.

Me: Except for now they taste like coconuts.

Her: They're just like regular eggs. You'll be ok.

Me: <sigh>
