you know the thing is most of the world IS bilingual... except for america!! europe has an extremely good linguistics education... so does japan... the youth all over the world, the majority of them, ARE bilingual.

You are telling them they cant speak their native language, becuase they are in america, that is fucking bullshit!!! No other country has a law against speaking a different language.

Instead of bitching about their language you should see it as interesting and try to learn parts of it.

Huh? I am the one who argued in favor of a multilingual society.

By the way, I was at McDonald's and there was this Black woman a few tables away yapping on her phone: "Yeah baby, uh huh, yeeeah, aw yeah...." Thing is, this is exactly how a racist would portray such Blacks, so stereotypes do have a truth to them. I don't think someone like that is trying to lift herself up. It was annoying while I was eating my chicken sandwich, but anyway, I support free speech. I find that Blacks more than Whites like to yap on their phones real loud in public.

WHAT THE FUCK!?!?! One sentence of someone replying to someone else makes you think the person isnt trying to lif thtemselves up? so you generalize that to the whole black community? becuase of the way they speak? God Damn boy, i have nothing more to say to you. What do you think a stereotype is... its a generalization... making that assumption about all black people is wha tmakes you a racist... of course stereotypes have truth to them... black people have big penises... jews are greedy whores... and have no rhythm... americans are fat... gay people have lisps... but all these generalizations cant be contributed to them all. theres always exceptions. and some stereotypes have more truth to them than others... for instance, if someone were to say a stereotype was "black people are lazy" it would just be a bunch of bullshit from the start.

    Thats a bunch of shit...

the one last thing I will add, in hopes that I am not further mis-understood: I have never had any problem with people speaking their native language, except in some social situations where it is simply rude to exclude others around them. I simply don't want to always have to choose between Spanish and English when I call my bank, etc.

PEACE LOVE AND HAPPINESS TO ALL PEOPLE EVERYWHERE.

    (I mean no harm.)

political correctness is one thing, its lame, i will agree with you on that... but there is a fine line between a bit satirizing political correctness, and something that just seems like racist bullshit to me. and some parts of that quote seemed like that to me.

Well, you gotta admit that Bill Gates' wife wouldn't be saying "uhhhh baby," and neither would the ex-CEO of Hewlett Packard, Carly Fiorina.

OK, ignore me. Just want to point out that your extremism often makes other people extreme, which helps to foster exactly what you are fighting against.

When I was in Amsterdam I was almost robbed at Vondelpark by a Black. He was obviously some immigrant. Most of the peddlers of drugs who rip people off in the Red Light District were Black too.

what does that have to do with how successful a person becomes though? it doesnt have anything to do with that... its just a way of speaking... its not like bill gates wife was successful because of anything... i mean she married bill gates, that automatically makes you successfull..
almost robbed? wtf? i been robbed a lot of times, always from white people... but i never been ALMOST robbed...
my extremism against racists like you brings out your racism, yes i know that.
sorry man through the things you have already said i think your a racist peice of shit.
    end of story

Yeah, she was successful at Microsoft before she dated Mr. Gates, and you can bet Mr. Gates would be discriminating as far as class.

Yes, I was walking by myself alone at night and this Black guy was moving closer and closer to me, almost bumping into me, and at the last moment perhaps chickened out and continued walking, only to turn around a little farther and give me a strange stare. Either he was a robber or someone playing strange mindgames real late at night like an imbecile.

Yeah, I am racist to an extent. But at least I admit it. I wonder though about those like you -- often portraying yourselves as open-minded -- and dishing out some of the nastiest insults out there.

This thread reminds me of that saying that chimps are not necessarily more peaceful than humans, but they, unlike humans, lack the grenades (and intelligence) to wipe each other out.

You can tell a lot about people by their reading lists. In this forum Tom Wolfe comes up, as does Kerouac, and some '60s gurus.

There should be a little more variety. ;)

Yes i would love to speak another language but why do we have the spanish channel and why do we have to put Spanish Underneath English on food products and other signs. It should all be English

Go back to Europe snowflake...You say the black man fucks things up for white people on this continent? What the white man did to MY people is a fucking million times worse. Did the black man throw blankets full of small pocks/lupus/typhoid fever onto reserves, land that was STOLEN by the WHITE MAN? NO! Did the black man corner 300 innocent women and children' at Chief Sitting Bull's last battle and brutally massacre them with no remorse? NO! I've got an idea...how about YOU learn to speak Cree/Ojibwe/Mic Mac/Blackfoot/Algonkian/Cherokee/Lakota, etc. because those are the ORIGINAL languages of "America". Why doesnt your white ass look in the mirror and get a clue. I think its about fucking time that society caters to minorities...finally get some justice in these fucking countries. GET THE FUCK OFF MY CONTINENT IF YOU CANT SPEAK MY LANGUAGES!!
    ---------------

To anyone who takes this as offensive *except the person in the quote* please accept my sincerest apoligies. I am not racist against the white man, but this guy just rubbed me the wrong way.

    actually, we don't.
for ease of communication, English is a default and taught language, but legally, there is not and official.
In Colorado three languages ate used in state paper work: English, Spanish and Ute.
So if we are talking about moving someplace and adapting the language, its hypocritical since German-linguistic people actually made up the largest immigrant group before 1910, and under the move here and learn the language theory: Stongo. (Creek for hello)
(The Alglophonics just organized the gov't first... )
also there is no such thing as "reverse racism." racism is racism. I understand what is meant, turning it on the cultural majority, but hate is hate and clueless is clueless.

Porch monkeys are good at sports, music, and crime, thats about it. They should all be put on a boat and sent back to Africa. As for native americans, tough shit get back on your reservation and drink some fire water. Tamale snappers have value, they cut our grass and do our dishes, and wash our cars so I say lets keep them. Dot heads are ok cuz I need somewhere to get my doughnuts. Chinamen should go because we americans like our cats as pets not food.

As long as we keep perpetuating the idea that racists are nothing but ignorant backwoods hicks (kinda like the poster above me) then I think that the problem will start to disappear. There may have been a time when it was the norm for a white person to think themselves superior or more privilaged than other races, but nowadays anyone who acts like that is basically considered a toothless backwoods pointy-hat wearin fool.

I dont know where the original poster got his ideas, but I grew up being the only white child (besides my twin) in the neighborhood, and the people I lived near never let me onto the idea that I was any different, let alone was I ever called a "cracker" or anything similar. I was, however, never harrassed by the cops roaming the neighboorhood when I was out late, unlike my darker-skinned pals. I have to say, most the racisim I have heard growing up came from white people (mostly men) even though I probably knew more minorities growing up.

I'm not saying there isn't racists among minority populations but I think that it is for a different reason. white racists usually comes from lack of consicence and apathy, and a general superiority complex. I think minority racism comes more from anger and frusteration.

Forget about slavery, desegregation wasn't that long ago. Even after freeing slaves, we treated blacks terribly. Many people from the desegragation era are still alive. There are wounds still healing, and correcting american's view of people of seperate colors doesn't happen over night, or over a few generations. Old habits die hard, racist attitudes still are passed to sons and daughters, it hasn't been that long yet. It will still take some time, but I think we are getting there. We just can't forget, and can't assume that just because people a few generations ago made major steps in equality and human rights that everything is fixed, everything is solved. It takes time.

So thats why we still have people like the few on this board who think (or even joke like its funny) african-americans need to be boated back to africa (like they came over here willingly in the first place). And that's why minorities may still be feeling oppression, frusteration, and anger. Racisim is bad for a free society no matter who its coming from, but we can't expect it to disappear overnight.
