“YOU’VE GOT TO BE CAREFULLY TAUGHT”

You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear,
You’ve got to be taught from year to year,
It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear—
You’ve got to be carefully taught!

You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a different shade—
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate—
You’ve got to be carefully taught!
You’ve got to be carefully taught!

    I was cheated before
    And I’m cheated again
    By a mean little world
    Of mean little men.
And the one chance for me
Is the life I know best.

    To be on an island
And to hell with the rest.
I will cling to this island
Like a tree or a stone,
I will cling to this island
    And be free—and alone.

    That is just unbelievable!
Why oh why have people not learned to live in peace.
I have no time for any kind of prejudice.

My dad was born into an Irish Catholic family, two of his family where catholic priests, so when he became a Hindu in his early 20s they were horrified, then he went on a pilgrimage to India and came home with an Indian wife, the icing on the cake, there are allot of twins in my dads family so when me and my twin bro came along apparently she showed a bit of interest , but had to be behind her husband back, he would never accept us and no one was allowed to even talk about us in front of him. She was just an envelop with some money on our birthday, we would buy flowers for our mum with it, seems only right. It never really effected us, just taught us how not to be, I could never reject my child just because they took a different path to me, but it is what it is, nothing can change it so why worry.

There are some who say that Jesus himself made a pilgrimage to India in his twenties, during a time period known as the unknown years of Christ. He probably went through the Silk Route connecting the middle east and Indian subcontinent, intrigued by the Buddhist missionaries sent by Ashoka .

So perhaps your dad may have followed his intuitions in this regard and decided to go through uncharted territory instead of the well-trodden path and may have unknowingly visited the same places that Jesus visited ! :D

If you truly believe in god, you will recognise him in all his forms.

In the future you might want to consider your surrounding before opening your mouth

Do you share my views that ignoring someone's background and culture is far more insulting than chatting about it.
On more than one occasion when I have been chatting, the next thing I knew was when they were planning my trip to India.
If you met Jane and started chatting about Ireland, you would not be posting on HF for hours. :D

2.5 million for the firm who worked out how many additional power stations would be needed to power 100% electric cars in the UK.
It took me less than an hour to work out that they had got it wrong. :D
