R.I.P HardDrive

I wonder: if you are in a network enviroment with the propper system rights you could login as root or admin and run a diagnostics check with lets say system mechanic or systemworks at the target pc and check if the drive etc is still beeing recognized.
The other option involves a pc with diagnostic tools to which you could hook the hdd and run it from there or try booting it with UBCD
