many cultures down through the ages, including the adversarial culture that is dominant today, have unfortunately a kind of collective narcissism, that sees people in other cultures as "other".
people overcome this when it takes alliying with each other to defend their common interests.
indiginous cultures today, for example, whatever their past differences, have come to respect the reality, of the dependence of preserving their own culture, on helping each other preserve theirs.
