its never too late, especially if shes been alone that long!!! she will just welcome someone that much more, single gerbils tend to be very much more welcoming to a fellow female, it may take a little extra work with the introducing methods, but it couldnt hurt to try!!! well i suppose it would if it failed and then you had 2 single gerbils... but im sure you can do it with a little hard work, actually, i dont know about introducing a 2 year old loner, ask that site, please ask, and see what you can do for that little critter,it has feelings too... i imagine you might want another one after he passes anyways? also do you give her toys at least?! they really love paper towel and toilet paper tubes, they shred em to pieces and it keeps thier teeth from over growin, they love any shaped cardboard actually, roll it up circularly or bend a square house together.
Oh, yeah...we give her tons of stuff to shred. we try to interact with her as much as possible, but she always bites. Even when she was a baby. She's very skiddish and scared all the time. I wasn't my idea to get the gerbil in the first place, but my husband wanted to get it for the kids. Don't worry, they don't torture her. They just watch her play. She is very crafty; always trying to escape. Once, she lodged her house up against her wheel so the wheel wouldn't turn, and then she climbed on top of the wheel. I'll think about getting a friend for her, but like you said, I don't really want to get have 2 gerbils in separate cages that hate each other!
