Punk Rock Sucks!

One of the best shows i have ever seen was Sonic Youth in 1990...it was artistic,pretty, and incredibly intense all at the same time...everyone was blown away. I saw them a few more times but that was by far the best one.

True about minor threat as well....angry music about making a postive change in yourself and society..

Its almost hard to talk about "punk" because there are so many sub genres.....

Yeah fuck you, not all punk bands are signed to major corporate labels, not all punk bands sit there and bitch about things, I agree pop culture has ruined the so called Punk "Image" cause now you got all these bands that look like stereotypical punk rockers but theyre sitting there bitching about theyre moms and girlfriends like the fucking backstreet boys. Pop punk licks balls. I'm not into punk rock for the fashion or the image, or what the T.V. seems to try to portray punk rock as. I'm in it for the music, the passion and the freedom of it all. "Punk rock is freedom, liking and accepting everything that you like, playing whatever you want, as sloppy as you want, as long as its good and had passion." as Kurt Cobain once said.Yes i do agree that most new punk does suck, but their are exceptions to every rule man. Punk rock is and forever will be my favorite style of music because it represents something I want: Freedom!

 

Kurt Cobain is the most OVER-rated figure in music history. What experiences has he gone through to make his statements 'punk gems'? If I rememeber correctly, he was famous for a grunge band, and of course, for dying. So really, what makes Kurt such an icon for you?

i wouldn't go so far as saying I hate pnuk rock, but I really, really dislike it. Maybe it's because I go to a school where everyone is a poser punk, maybe it's because as a bassist, I like to play music that is fairly challenging( and i have yet to meet a punk rock tab a 4 year old could not conquer), or maybe it's that it all sounds the same to me.

 

see?! Take away the "music" in punk rock and leave in the vocals and what do you get? A protester.

 

Kurt Cobain was famous for a grunge band, but technically what was grunge, A mix between Punk and Metal. He liked Punk more than any other style of music. And being a member of a Punk/Metal band proves that the experiences he went through with punk rock make his statements "punk gems". He was famous for dying, why did he kill himself? Because the mainstream came to his band and the same kind of kids that he despised in high school, the kids that beat him up and then asked him to join theyre little club were coming to his arena size concerts and singing along to "Smells Like Teen Spirit". He's not the most over-rated figure in music history. He might be a little over-rated for that song. And for the record I am not a high school dropout, I am still in school, I havent failed anything yet, and in June I will be finishing High School and going on to do something or nothing with my life. the simple fuck-you was deserving, punk rock is forever, diamonds are just image, unlike punk rock.
