Unless you've actually tried psychedelics it is quite impossible to have any notion of their effects. It doesn't matter what is written in what document, or what 'new-age' nonsense the likes of Icke come up with. Without the experience it is all pure speculation. Not that I advise anyone to take lsd or anything else, it's up to the individual.
Your distrust of drugs indicates a lack of faith in God, which in turns indicates to me that you are less enlightened than I am. Creations of God (such as drugs) can only serve to further your enlightenment, they do not exist to hamper your development. Of course, there is an appropriate time and place for God to bring these to you, and you might not be (spiritually) mature enough to handle them at this point in your life (your fear of drugs indicates a lack of maturity). Well. Yup. I was born in Berkeley, CA. into a world where drug use is educational and enlightening. Of course, there is a lot more to life than drug use, but it is obviously part of it. I don't disparage your lack of drug use, although lack of drug use may hinder your spiritual/ intellectual development. God will take care of you even if you don't do drugs, so you will be all right.
Micah 2; 11 thru 13: If one, acting on impulse, should make the futile claim: "I pour you wine and strong drink as my prophecy," then he would be the prophet of this people. I will gather you, O Jacob, each and every one, I will assemble all the remnant of Israel; I will group them like a flock in the fold, like a herd in the midst of it's corral; they shall not be thrown into panic by men. With a leader to break the path they shall burst open the gate and go out through it; Their king shall go out before them, and the Lord at their head. Drugs screwed up real enlightenment for those attending Woodstock, but it won't happen again. Earlier in Micah 2; 3 thru 4: Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I am planning against this race an evil from which you shall not withdraw your necks; Nor shall you walk with head held high, for it will be a time of evil. On that day a satire shall be sung over you, and there shall be a plantive chant: "Our ruin is complete, our fields are portioned out among our captors, The fields of my people are measured out, and no one can get them back!" I would say that songs made in the 1960's certainly qualify for this satire and plantive chant. Eve of Destruction and In The Year 2525 are songs that certainly fill the bill.
God does pour me wine and strong drink as prophecy. The prophecy is that sometimes I will get wasted when God takes me out on the town. Whatever. You are silly. Nothing can screw up God's plan for the enlightenment of God's children. You know why nothing can screw it up? Because everything is part of God's plan. God does have a sense of humor. You might not get it.
You are part of the fulfillment of prophecy. Part of the Damascus Document: This was the time of which it is written, Like a stubborn heifer thus was Israel stubborn (Hos. 4; 16), when the Scoffer arose who shed over Israel waters of lies. There is still a chance for you and others like you, if you should choose to take it. What is that chance? A chance to experience something real before you kill yourself.
Of course, we all are. This describes you. You are the one who doubts God's grace and talks against God's creation (such as alcohol, drugs, and whatnot). Don't you know that God brings you stuff for your benefit? You should look at drugs and other things (such as food) as something real. After all, they are creations of God, just like you and I. God gives many different gifts, all in the spirit of love. Of course, God can effect you the same way as drugs without drugs so you don't have to do drugs, but if God offers you drugs you should recognize that it is for your own good. Technically God can sustain you without having to give you food, but God still gives you food to show you that your sustanence comes from outside as well as from the inside. For the same reason God gives us drugs to make us feel good- we see God bringing them to us through our brothers which draws us outside of ourselves into the greatness of God's creation and a loving knowing relationship with our brothers and sisters.
I refer AGAIN to my post #44 of this thread. Drugs for enlightenment are FUTILE! Let's just keep giving posts here and let others decide.
Allright, you are being like a stubborn heifer though. "This was the time of which it is written, Like a stubborn heifer thus was Israel stubborn (Hos. 4; 16), when the Scoffer arose who shed over Israel waters of lies." Don't you know that God has created everything? Don't you know that God uses everything for your good? Don't you know that your words indicate that you are lying about God's ability to enlighten us in any way God sees fit?
hey dan I like and respect your theories and resoning... I'm not going to say taking drugs is right or wrong, I think right or wrong is a personal thing beyong my judgement however I do know that at one time I thought the idea of God was about as obsurd as a southern plantation owner voting for a black man for president in the early 1800's.....but then I experienced a psychedelic and since then I have devoted my time studying religions and spirituality from around the world, praying, meditating and loving....I know that withuot that experience I would still be stuck in a godless world of hate....thats besides the point I'm really curious to know your reaction to the good friday study done in like 1965 I believe. They did a double blind study on good friday in a chapel where they gave a group of theology either a psychedelic or a placebo and nobody know who had what...the people that got the psychedelic claimed to have experienced the most intense religious experience of there life. the others just claimed that they may have felt a little something different and also, whats up vermillion, SD....I'm from redfield
I would say that the reason why it took a psychedelic to cause you to be aware of spiritual things is that the drug took your body closer to a death state. There are many accounts of nasty people having near-death-experiences. After they have been revived, they become sweeter and kinder people. Now, just how much and how many drugs will be enough, for your(or anyone's) artificial enlightenment? How long will it be after taking drugs, that you decide that you do not want to come back? It is also a commonly held idea among multiple religions that children are closer to the spiritual realm, but as they grow older many lose the spiritual awareness. They are corrupted by this blind-leading-the-blind world, which I have described in other posts. With the proper environment, children will not lose their spiritual awareness, 'drugs for enlightenment' would never enter the picture. Let us face it, the reason people turn to drugs, is to escape from the world they live in. The TRUE answer is to change the world we live in, not take drugs to escape. Taking drugs for enlightenment, is like puting a bandage over a cancer tumor. Redfield? Do they still have that huge pheasant?
haha we sure do..... In Aldous Huxley's Door's of Perception & Heaven and Hell he discuss's the theory of 'mind at large' which states that are mind is like a reducing valve when it comes to perceptions. meaning when we are born our brain is completely open to all perceptions including spiritual and divine, like you said children are closer to the spiritual. as we grow older that valve reduces as most of what we percieve isn't a necessity for our survival, now our perceptions are based off of our ego(not to be mistaken with freuds ego's) desires for survival , mostly eating and reproducing. whch explains why adults are further from the spiritual then children....so when you take a psychedelic the reducing valve of your perseptions is blown wide open allowing you to perceive and feel the divine (just lioke a kid again) and what you experience is an ego death you should really educate yourself on drugs and their history before making one sided judgements....drugs have been used since the beginning of humanity, nearly all religions are basd off of the mystical experience produced by drugs, the veda's talk about a soma ingested to experience the divine...shamans around the world use a fly ageric and mushrooms...native americans still use mescaline as a way of touching the spiritual in nature...some theorize that the first communion at the last supper jesus actually passed out a fly ageric similar looking to a pita bread when he said 'this is my body' similar to some american indians considering mushrooms as the flesh of the gods....in the mideast and europe they used concoction of honey and ergot and barley as a ritualistic sacrifice (i believe lsd has a form of ergot or a mold that grows on ergot) I think you should take into account the experience you get rather then the way you get it and if you've never experienced it making a judgement is completely out of the question as the experience you get is something that can not be comprehended by the rational mind...
"the drug took your body closer to a death state" you don't know all that much about drugs, do you. too much "Reefer Madness"
In Dan's case, it is a case of the blind leading the blind. He does not see that everything comes from God, so argues against the gifts of God. Hopefully God will make him aware of this shortcoming so he can enjoy all of the gifts of God and learns to stop saying "No" to the gifts of God. Truthfully, God visits me in the same way (as psychedelics) without drugs, but if God did bring me drugs I would except them as a gift.
Or, when you point at the sunset, a cat just stares at your finger. "When a thief meets a saint, all he sees are pockets" - Hillel
I am being looked down on for not using drugs for enightenment. THAT'S NUTS! So, how many times does it take to become enlightened? What kinds of drugs are the best?
