Sooo... it appears you agree Ben Stiller is a better choice than Samuel Jackson. You just won't admit it (that's ok :)) :p

Ha, Asmo. [IMG] The only thing Ben has over Sam is age. Not much incentive. I'm with Hotwater et al, no Ben.

Enough about the white actors playing a black guy! It isn't going to happen.

This probably all got said but it was mos def an opiate od. There are also illuminati conspiracies all over the web bc a video he made calling out chem trails and its "the end of their season of killing"..But yea, od. I called it second I heard about it. Rip Prince. And btw, time for real drug addiction reform in this country in regards to opiates.

I can't sit through that song one more time. I've enjoyed getting exposed to all the album tracks that never got played until last week though.

Is there a song of his that you especially like?
    Tell me one.

I think I have to listen, if for no other reason than just for general knowledge.

Its the same for me with Paranoid of Black Sabbath and Light my fire of The doors. I get the shivers when I hear the intro and not in a good way. Overplaying it was definitely the main cause. Time and time hearing it at a moment you wouldn't select it yourself. And especially Paranoid really is a killer song.

I can't think of a title. Satellite radio is playing so many album tracks. I haven't heard the same one more than once. They are so different, from each other and from his hits. Many focus more on instrumental talent rather than vocals. They show a side of his creativity and originality that I hadn't seen before. You could just try a few at random.

He told Rolling Stone Magazine that he's never released his very best material, because he hated greedy record companies so much. So we can look forward to hearing a lot of that within the next two years, unless there is a legal problem.

I remember when his early hits were new, and his videos were being played on MTV every day. White college girls and high school girls just thought of him as a sexy pop star with an attitude and hot dance moves. More than anybody before him, he made a lot of us want to get fucked by a black guy, at least once in our lifetime. Some of us did that, and then we grew up and moved on. We didn't care if he wrote his own songs, or how many instruments he played at a high talent level, and we didn't hear anybody else talking about it.

Now he's getting more respect from serious music fans and critics, more like Jimi Hendrix, who also left behind a mountain of unreleased quality work. A very interesting twist to his life story. I wish I had known more about this side of Prince while he was alive. I always skipped the local concerts, partly because I heard the mostly black crowd was more than a little bit rough. I should have checked him out in a different location.

Prince rarely shows up in public polls of the top ten guitarists in the world, yet Eric Clapton said Prince was the best of all. So, I'm far from being the only one who failed to perceive him correctly.

Unfortunately IMHO most of the posthumously released Hendrix stuff fucking blew,

I'm with you on this. I still haven't listened to "Let's go Crazy" because of certain coincidences and the attitude about celebrating life while you are living it.

The first time I ever heard it, I kept waiting for the bass to come in. When it hit me that it wasn't ever going to happen, I was shocked. I thought it was one of the boldest musical choices I had ever heard from a mainstream artist. I was afraid the primitive, tribal sound would prevent it from being a hit, but it didn't. Then I expected imitators to copy the approach. Wrong again. Nobody else could figure out how to pull it off. Any way you look at it, it was a huge creative success. A+ for originality.

It's interesting/ironic that I'm a bass player and that is one of my favorite Prince songs. There is a synth passage near the end before the out chorus that sounds to me like something Zappa would've written.

    Talented man.

He has also written for other artists and they have been chart toppers as well. Nothing comares2u, manic monday, stand back, the glamorous life, I feel for you, sugar walls, all great songs.

It will be interesting to see what is released from those vault
