yeah, im happy that he won. i certainly preferred him to john "what was i thinking with palin" mcain. and im sure that this will lead to an era in which America experiences massive sociological change, in which old preconceptions are challenged and prejudices broken down. and america assumes a new national identity and becomes recognised as a tolerant and progressive society by the global community.

    on the other hand:

frankly, on the political side i'm not so sure. all the news seems to concentrate on the colour of his skin, rather than any of his policies. as a casual (lazy) observer, all i seem to be able to glean is that hes for capital punishment and protectionism, neither of which im particularly keen on. oh, and that he wants a reappraisal of marijuana laws which i am in favour of. asides from that the main points seem to be that hes black and that celebrities like him.

i just hope he does come through for his country and people, otherwise hes got a HELL of a long way to fall. hes promised change, i hope that he can deliver, its a tall order, especially when the media has painted you as the greatest thing since sliced bread. good on him , though.

other platforms: alternative energy and energy independence, upholding roe v. wade, is not against banning same-sex unions..on that point, he is in favor of letting induvidual states make up their mind to allow same-sex union, he also wants to withdraw troops from Iraq, and most important in my opinion, restoring diplomatic dialogues with nations rather than the "im a cowboy and your either with us or agains us" mentality.

thanks, you are a whole lot more helpful than the news!

i also just found out that he MIGHT get rid of the act restricting travel of HIV positive people to the states, and the stopping of any AIDs charities working in america that also give out free condoms. which is very very good:)

hey, no more donations from lobbyists or PACs, womens right to choose, expanding childcare tax, tax cuts, early childhood education, creating 5 million "green" jobs, affordable health care, work with russia to get nuclear weapons off high alert "hair-trigger" status. this all looks WICKED :D

as long as he can pull it off

This has brought out alot of latent racism from people at my work :( Day to day I can find a common ground with them but when something like this becomes a major current affair topic it's an awful atmosphere cos a lot of them are so middle england / latent racists / armchair bnp supporters.... grrrrr twats.

To counteract the current golly wog on the dollar bill "jokes" going around on email at work I've stuck a big poster up of Obama on my wall next to my PC

I hope he doesn't let me down with naff foreign policy

Forward them to the bosses, but then again they're quite likely to be the instigators.

Nothing mentioned where I work but then they've come across my reactions to that shit before.

It is difficult because we have allowed the position of president of the states to be someone we can abuse without proper regard.
