What has me is "From these examples we can deduce that America has a habit of exterminating entire populations. That is something which goes by another name: ETHNIC CLEANSING. Naturally, we can ask a Native American what they think about the extermination of their people." After all, if it was really true, we couldn't ask them at all. I hear the "G" word bandied about a lot these days as well, but the only examples of real genocide are not in the Americas. The one terrible constant among ALL human beings is that you only keep territory you can defend. If not, it's taken from you. Usually by a stronger conqueror. That was true in the Americas long before the Spanish arrived. So I fail to see what use there is for anyone to be whining about it today as if it just happened yesterday. And then, of course, blaming an entire race for it when MOST of the people of that race have hurt nobody. I'll be so glad when this damnable kidney stone has passed, I'm just not myself. BTW, you're going to find a lug nut on the street. It belonged to the great uncle of Jimmy Carter. And don't give corn cobs to the dog.
What has me is people on a Hippy Free Speech site defending genocide. When one super power country drops 80 million bombs on a little one like Laos, it is ATTEMPTED GENOCIDE. It proves America is a terrible country. What did Laos ever do to America? Why is militarism and conquering a justification?
You think I'm "defending" it because I disagree with it even taking place. I have news for you Sir, war sucks. It sucked when the Mayans and Spanish fought to defeat the Aztecs. It sucked during the French and Indian War (or 7 Years War if you prefer). Vietnam and as you pointed out, the other nations dragged into it, was a nightmare as wars go. If you look at the cultural side of the list of things the UN considers to be "genocidal" what would you say about the way the communists rather hideously wiped out every trace of south Vietnamese culture? I'll question overused terms as I see fit. But suggesting that I would in any way support any actual campaign of genocide is just dirty pool on your part. But you've done that word cramming thing before. We can have a discussion without the personalizing bullshit, or we can trade jabs and try to see who is the bigger asshole. Just try to stay below the warning points radar if you would.
OK, I am just against war, period. The story on Laos just came out in the news. It is about the US dropping 80 million bombs on a nation with a population of 7 million. You have to admit it a crazy thing to do.
Agreed, I have no interest in seeing the nation dragged into another war, declared or otherwise. It's unfortunate, but Laos and Cambodia were routinely used by the communists to transport troops and equipment, in violation of various international agreements. And they routinely used hostages and human shields. As far as the number of bombs, without knowing the numbers of which type, it's hard to quantify. The technology was also still basically "dumb" bombs. There were also cluster and incendiary bombs, none guided. So they were still basically tossing out huge numbers and hoping for the greatest effect, same as WW2. Who really knows what a nation will do to end a war? It's only limited by their means and imagination. What you have me wondering though is how the Native Americans will fare as global conflicts arrive here. Like the Code Talkers, the good of everyone in the nation becomes everyone's business. Divided as we all are now, it would be easy to catch a lot of people in the US off guard. In this part of the country there are more than a few Casinos on tribal land. Usually in the middle of nowhere, so security is nil. A perfect soft target for Jihadists hell bent on smoking some bourgeoisie middle class American infidel honkies. I see troubling times ahead.
I agree with you George, for the most part that is. The methods of war will always be what the waring nations want to do; after all, it is a matter of Might Makes Right. In the case of Laos, there was no war, nothing declared by Congress. All press reports say it was secret. The American people knew nothing. I was around back then and remember Viet Nam clearly. Earlier I asked what did Laos ever do to America? You say they used human shields. OK, but the communists were not Laotian. They were Vietnamese. The Laotians never did anything to America. In the case of Native American casinos and the threat from Jihadists, I am very skeptical about Jihadists ever doing anything at such a location. They might do something against a Whitey symbol, but not against Natives. I say Jihadists would likely identify with Native Americans as another abused group. Nevertheless, I think ISIS is just about done. Iraq Syria, Russia, Turkey, and the KUrds have all but wiped them out. Iraq is getting ready to attack Mosul, the last Jihadi stronghold. Ideas have a way of lingering on, so there might be another small scale attempt to form a Caliphate. They would have to get their funding from Saudi Arabia and Qatar again, both allied with America. In Afghanistan the Taliban are making gainst against the American installed government. I think there they want to take control of their own country, not do anything against America. The danger to America is greater from North Korea, China, Drug Gangs, and so on.
If they'll destroy monuments that are centuries and millennia in age, I doubt they'll have much respect for any culture they find in the US. I also didn't mean to suggest that Laos itself made any overt moves or declared anything. They were caught up in it because of geography and their own inability to resist the VC and KR. The US bombed targets in France during WW2, a bitter pill in any war I'd imagine. As for casinos, they're perfect targets for religious zealots. It's a collection of everything they hate about Americans. I'm certain the fight will be coming to our door in the US. I only wonder what will have to take place before the whole nation demands decisive action. Americans sure do seem to love taking it on the chin globally.
Isn't that the point of a "free speech" site, to allow people to voice opinions and ideas? What you seem to have trouble with is why everyone doesn't think about it the same as you do. I'm with George, war sucks, always has, always will. What you miss in my consideration of it is that my feelings are not limited by history, so considering the entirety of human history, it's all just another day. As I pointed out earlier and many time previously, slavery was the primary economic system for the majority of the world's history and those slaves were acquired via war and force. Technology is our slave bitch now. Lincoln and the war didn't end slavery in America, the cotton gin did. Technology was much more cost effective than keeping slaves, plain and simple. The reason why I poke at you, STM, is because you look at the same things as others do and come away with some pretty ludicrous notions and interpretations of events. Some of what you say is valid and true, but a lot of your ideas concerning motives and such are very suspect and full of personal opinion and assumptions The next war is quite literally being fought for peoples minds, there is no more real estate to war over, so the last bit of real estate up for contention is the space between our ears, that is why it is even more important to be critical and discerning of what ANYONE says or claims, even folks who seem to be fighting on the side of "right". Again hatred, bigotry and racism comes from all corners directed at all corners, a person is not exempt from being bigoted and racist in their position merely because they speak for people's who have received the shitty end of the stick. When are you going to stop categorizing people based solely on their race, religion or ethnicity? You do that more than any other member currently active on the site, yet you throw around insults/accusations of racism and bigotry more than any other currently active member. typical What I find interesting is why you haven't been banned for always promoting hate speech on the site.
OK George, I agree undesire-able things occur during wartime. The KR were from Cambodia. I don't know the extent of their reach in Laos, so will stay away from any dialog on it. What jumped up at me was the 80 million bombs dropped on a nation of 7 million. Even if most of the carpet-bombing had taken place in remote areas, it's still 11 for each Laotian, a bit overkill. And I am sure some of the ordinance destroyed Religious sites in that jungle. ISIS destoryed religious icons intentionally, a deplorable act. The accidental destruction also ruins historic and sacred places in the Laotian jungle. Again on Jihadists in America, I doubt that they would come here and drive all the way to New Mexico or Central New York when they have White targets right in front of them in the big cities. I wouldn't worry about Jihadists in Georgia. A Bar-B-Q pork outfit in Georgia is more likely to suffer an attack by a crazed White gun-slinger who happens to be pissed off at his meth dealer.
Most of the restaurant shootings we have around here are black folks, same as club shootings. The meth heads don't seem to frequent eateries, go figure! And I'm speculating on casinos simply because of the ease of access and the unlikely possibility of killing fellow Muslims. I wouldn't want to be in Vegas when the general Jihad dinner bell rings. That's assuming of course that we really do have terror cells in the US. However, I wonder how the US government will be seen if in fact Native Americans are targeted? Or worse, if some kind of attack is levied against them. A desert certainly isn't much protection and I don't know how well reservations are armed. I tend to take the radical side of the middle east pretty seriously when they openly express their hatred of all Americans. I've worked with a lot of Muslims over the years and only had problems with 3. I'm positive one of them caused a job site to be firebombed and another caused a coworker to be shot. The 3rd was just a goof who liked to photobomb every shot I was trying to take of the site, I finally just let him do it and made the angle a little wider. The rest were rather excellent folks to be around. If I left my wallet in the hotel lobby, it would still be there when I came back down in the morning. Maybe I'm naive, but I have found that every culture has a larger set of decent people than assholes. And the asshole gene infects all humans. After all, we wiped out the Neanderthals.
I agree there are good and bad among all people, including the Muslims. I remember during the 1960s the MIddle East was a polite and nice place. What ruined the Middle East is the advent of the Wahabists. Their extremist interpertation of the religion is what leads to all the killing and destruction of historical places. At the same time, there are sane Muslims who resist and fight these Wahabists. The big problem is clear to see: Some one is funding them, most likely Qatar and Saudi Arabia. I think there is a remote chance some might come here and try something, but doubt it. All the events and arrests that I have read about in the press are examples of small time stuff, mentally ill, and even under age kids. There has been no big operation like on 911, funded by an outside source. I have always said 911 could be exposed if the money trail is followed to its source. It is interesting that you say gun violence in Atlanta is Black on Black. There is similar activity here in Indiana. There has also been interracial killing. The Oregon Armed Occupation people were White ranchers. Here in Indiana someone or some party killed three Muslims execution style. And there was a Muslim gas station owner killed by a Black robber. A county west of me has a very high Meth and Meth related violence record, mostly among young White people. So, I see it as a wide cross section.
Are you serious with the Laos argument there What do you think, the NVA were like, ooh, theres a little red line on a map, we cant step over that, what will people think The vast majority of Americans are clueless about the events leading up to the Vietnam War, and in denial about the events after The do-gooders back home in the West partly responsible for what later ended up happening in Kampuchea When is the last time you saw a non-muslim holding up a severed head? At some point, you got to wonder why in that region they dont sort out there own shit Imagine if you had a group trying to set up their own state inside Russia or China or any really anywhere else in the world besides the middle east and africa....it always gets stamped out pretty quickly, why ARE those two regions different?
