stopped brushing a few weeks ago and did some backcombing: they have separated into curly chunks, i think they will turn out nicely... though i wish my hair were longer
wow, i just read your story. your dreads look way better! i'm doing dreads for a similar reason. i'm a control freak and fairly vain. i need a lesson in letting go....
I'm the same exact way. I just started them almost a week ago and i'm really trying to get used to this "letting things be" way of thinking. and Hellodreadhead yours are amazing. I love it. I hope mine can be as intense.
awesome! keep me updated on how things are going for you.... did you backcomb or are you doing it natty?
I htought mine were about 2 months old...but I did the math this morning and they're only a month in a half....my concept of time is waaaay off! anywhoo....
I'm not patient enough for natty-ness. I backcombed, which took way longer than expected. here's what these sad little guys look like: Here you can see the intensity of the frizz. I am currently on day 3 (I'm a youngin'!). My head is a ball of fuzz and I look like a goof. my hair is super thin and straight so that's a big part of it. hopefully they will start looking more dreaded soon. now it's just awkward. any tips on how to fix the ends? I am hoping for the rounded ends.
Here's a tip on getting the dreads: Give it a year. You are on day THREE!!! But we've all been there. So, here's some actually useful tips: 1. Stop looking in the mirror. I will not help your hair lock, and it will stress your mind. 2. Spend more time reading the forums. Reading will help you understand what works for various people, and you will gain new perspective about the new dreads you are working on. Read every thread if you have too. You will see newbies all over the place, wigging, and panicking, and whatnot. The older guys will come on with some sick inspirational pics/stories, and so forth. Read every page of every thread, and you will feel much better. Knowledge is power. 3. RELAX!!! Man, life is too short to worry about if you "look like a goof." Look like a goof to whom exactly??? Don't listen to other people. Hell, don't even listen to ME!!! Instead- read up, find out what it really takes to get dreads (time, patience, faith, and nothing), and you will be just fine. 4. Make lemonade. What I mean by this is, find something positive to do, say, or think when you start worrying about your dreads. It's a great way to enhance your prayer life, personal goals, or your environment (socially or otherwise). If you choose to do something positive when you feel all that negative crap encroach on your well being, you're essentially making lemonade when life hands you lemons. For me, I choose to pray when I stress over my hair. I started my locks because I took the nazarite vow, what better way to keep my vow!!?!? Soon, I will be an expert lemonade maker, and have dreadlocks too!
Well, I definitely didn't expect dreads in a day, I just wanted to catch any mistakes early, I tend to think ahead. And there's only so much time one has to read this fantastic forum! I've been stuffing my head with tips and tricks and it's been very helpful. And relaxing.. it's easier said than done! I appreciate the feedback. I will definitely make lemonade.
