Ahh dangerous streets, armed thugs, prostitutes, murders, yeah, great town. But I was born there, and I live 4 miles west of , so... Greektown is great , people on the streets, a mixed atmosphere, but ya know, growing up in plymouth we always tended toward Ann Arbor, the bars, the atmosphere, the diag, the stores, the girls.... YEah Peace out
tiger stadium, the many many abandoned buildings that are playgrounds, cass corridor, heidelberg project, woodbridge, demf, dalley in the alley, biking around, back alley bikes, the trumbellplex, slows, belle isle, greening of detroit..
How 'bout them Tigers, eh? I live an hour away from the city and I've been to alot of concerts and shows there. Ann Arbor has alot of good music goin' on too. Peace...j.b.
hmm... Detroit Hardcore Detroit Techno Militia (mmm..bass) The CCS Stundent Art Show (my sister goes there and has her stuff in it...needless to say, everything's awesome)

i went to the auto show a couple years back. though most may be gas guzzlers, there were some cool concept cars...
Wow! So far no one really likes Detroit unless it a bar? I was at the Atwater brewery last nite for a fundraising event to help the victims of a great fire that took out an important part of our community. Emphasize community; because its the best ever, every good as new orleans or tucson and bigger with many amazing people. I love to ride my bike everywhere thru the city. I love that the law is really not present like it is in most other places and we can live not under the microscope so much. Art and activism flourishes more freely. There is much underground economy and barter, or people helping people. I could write 10 pages of the love I feel from the city, the best kept secret it seems.
That's the same thing I was going to post. As Bob Seger once said, Detroit has the greatest rock n roll audiences in the world. It's the working man's lifestyle of living for the weekend that creates the best audiences, whether it's in music or sports.
The fact that I don't live there nor will I ever live there again. We left 5 years ago. Thank god. Such a fucking hell-hole. One nice thing though was that it was only 20 mins to Canada. Great way to escape from the US, if only for a couple days.
I thought the name of the thread was "post one thing you love about Detroit", not "Lets hate on Detroit". There's alot of great things about Detroit, like the fisher theatre, the Detroit Electronic music fest, alot of cool bars and the music scene is real good. There's also alot of great dope if that's what your into. You could find negative shit to post about any Big City. Detroit has been going through some tough times, due to the decline in the auto industry, every industrial city is suffering though. My favorite thing about Detroit is probably Greek town. If you go down there during D.E.M.F, THERE ARE ALWAYS A SHIT LOAD OF GREAT AFTER PARTIES. Definetely check out Marilyns and Monroes as well!! Peace, love, unity, respect!!
Hey Jopi. You're right, there are a few good things. I used to love going to Trappers Alley in GT when I was a kid. Lotsa hot little whores too. Gotta love convertibles and short catholic school skirts with a smokin' hottie. Saw one girl finger bangin' herself in traffic on 94 once. hmmm.... I love driving cube vans. Ball games used to be fun at the old park. Super easy to get away with smokin' doobers in a couple areas. Now... Well, not so easy. And let's not forget about 8 mile. Although, I prefer a nice leisurely stroll down fenkell, right around the southfield. The burned up, fallen down houses and store fronts just do something for me. And the Detroit / Grosse Pointe border is just to die for - Laughing that is... I love how the GPP cops would follow me on Jefferson from the border upto moross just because I wasn't driving a lexus. Good times! The zoo used to be nice until the HNIC Kwame took office. Last time I was at the zoo, there were a couple empty "areas" filled with garbage and litter. Guess he needed the funds for another hooker party at the mansion. Or maybe it was a couple more cadilac suv's. Who knows! Must have been more important than the animals though. Now that Kwame is facing life in prison, hopefully the city will make a turn for the better. What was his name??? Coleman? I remember him doing some good for the shitty, I mean city of DebtRot.
Are you kidding me? Coleman Young was more of a gangster than Kwame ever thought about being. He did alot of fucked up shit too. Economically, Kwame has done more than Coleman Young did. My point is that if you look hard enough, you can find fucked up shit about any "big city". In Orlando it's Orange Blossom Trail" A.K.A, O.B.T! In Colombus Ohio it's the southside any where near High street, In Indianapolis it's the N.W. side if your down town and a bunch of other places anywhere else in "Nap Town", in L.A. it's south central, Compton, Oakland, Inglewood, North Hollwood, etc. etc. etc.!! I do understand that it got so bad for you that you left, as has alot of people. That's part of what is wrong with Detroit, all the good fucking people leaving and bad people just come and take over. Mi. whole economy is fucked up, it sucks! I want to leave sometimes too but that's not an option for me. I love the city to much, even the fucked up shit. That's part of the appeal for me I think. It has gotten alot safer in the past like 3 or 4 years, seriously. I have lived pretty rougha few times and even had to squat for a whole summer and most of a winter and I made it.
