Beautiful day for a walk today.

 

Took a long bike ride today and passed some interesting buildings along Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami Beach.

This KFC looks like the old ones that aren't too common around here. Sort of a local leftover when this U.S. Hwy was the main road into Miami.



A block away is a diner that isn't too old at 30 years, but it has that Deco quality that fits our ambiance.

I just did this foto today to illustrate that the numbers 9 and 6 are drawn the same way in type, yet kids are taught this convoluted way to make a 9. I am writing an essay on my personal dissidence which goes back to the first grade. Here is an excerpt:

Turns out my "problem" is that I am a creative person and often see things differently than the established authority. In the first grade when we were learning how to make letters and numbers the teacher got frustrated with me because I would not make my number 9 as told. She wanted me to draw a closed circle, counter clockwise, then a straight line down. I found it more expedient to make one clockwise swirl, the reverse of making a 6. Not only was it more efficient, it also resembles the 9 in typeset. I've checked with several people from the U.S. and other countries and they all make their 9 as our teachers instructed. I was the only one with a problem with authority and to this day still write the number 9 the "incorrect" way as seen in type and engravings.

Today is National Coming Out Day. Altho that ship has sailed a long time ago for me, just dug up this pic that I put on a T-shirt for Pride events.

Thank you. From the time she was a baby people said "she should be a model". She's really great in front of a camera. I'm not, I run and hide from cameras. This is another my favorites.
