That answer is dependent on the situation at hand, but people should leave dealing out justice to the proper authorities.
It depends on what proper authority is or means to you and who the person administering said "proper authority" is. But, otherwise, sometimes it's about as logical as having faith in the department of motor vehicles to actually "(do) work" or the IRS to file a W2 for you. Back in the colonial-era states, you would have to pay fire departments insurance and put a tax stamp in a visible spot adjacent to your front door. If you didn't pay or if you did pay and didn't have the tax stamp on your house, the fire department would stand in your yard and watch the house burn to the ground. You were also taxed on the width of the face of your house, but could build as deep and as tall as you wanted, which is why the average colonial homes were less than 12-16 feet wide, though all of this was status quo ante bellum and foreshadowing to the American Revolution. I don't know if it's just me, but I sometimes, in metaphor, I really don't think our governing has come very far from those days.
I would have led him to a room with my gun in it, locked him out of it, and opened the door and shot him. It technically would be legal too.
But, that wouldn't work. Because.... it's pointless and makes no sense. He'd also have to be an idiot to do that. And it would make a mess.
So you think if he were raping someone he should have gotten away scott-free then? I am confused... When is it right to stand up for another person?
Only if they keep their porn at a peaceful volume, I guess... Seriously though... The point was that even if someone HAD been being raped. The guys intentions are now on trial, not nessecarilly his actions. He has no idea the guy was watching porn...
he should've called the police, or at the very least politely knocked on the door to find out what was happening. barging in with a flippin' sword... thats really just a bit crazy.
He said he couldn't call the police. But beside that, how long would it have taken for them to get there? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? She could've already been dead by then. I have no trust in cops, anyway, so this option seems crazy to me. I think I would have done a similiar thing... Because knocking on the door? What? If someone is being violently raped on the other side, then who in the heck is gonna open the door? Like I said before, he would have been GLORIFIED if there would have actually been a rape going on! Think about it, seriously. Would you REALLY be condemning this guy had he stopped a rape? Or would you hold the double standard, too?
I would have knocked and been like "hey... y'all wanna smoke a bowl" And see what someone would say... If they say yes, then they're probably not raping somebody. Especially if nobody else is in the apartment?
its a completely different situation... if he knocked on the door and the rapist and the rapee heard it, you'd think that the rapist would yell to fuck off and/or the rapee would yell for help even louder than she had been doing. if no rape was going on any and all beings partaking in the porn-watching would probably let the guy know that there is no rape occurring, that it is just a porn flick he hears. if a rape really had been going on.... well, i would still think the guy is a tad insane for saving the day with a cavalry sword. () a gun would be much more normal haha
He didn't say he couldn't call the police, he said he didn't have a phone. There is a big difference. He was in an appartment building, so there were other neighbors he could have gone to. And I know this won't be a popular opinion on here but a lot of people who say they have no trust or faith in cops sure change their tune quick when they need a cop. Besides the sounds the guy heard were a porno movie, not a real woman screaming like she was being raped. There would be a difference. If he would have pounded on the door and listened instead of just kicking it in he would have been able to hear that the noise was not responding to the situation at hand. Have you looked at the picture of this guy? He doesn't look like the sharpist tool in the shead. It's his actions on trial here, not his intent. In the eyes of the law intent doesn't enter in to it.
There are also such things as pay phones that still exist... in fact, most of them have lowered local calls to a quarter, since people use cell phones so excessively these days.... which is why I generally don't use a cell phone.
i like my tracfone.... i hardly ever use phones as i really dont like to, so no phone bill is just too sweet.
Okay... I can live with that one... It does make more sense than breaking down a door. Although I think the guys heart WAS in the right place, he should have kept a cooler head... But I didn't really think about it from that perspective (no one else offered an alternative solution).
Allentown, PA http://willdo.philadelphiaweekly.com/archives/2007/03/john_accera_is.html read that article A 50-year-old middle school principal was found naked in his school office while watching gay pornography on Tuesday, according to sources. Sex toys were found nearby, the sources added. Police said John Acerra was a longtime teacher and principal in the Bethlehem Area School District, but was also allegedly selling crystal meth out of his school office. The shoe is on the other foot now, so let me ask this question in a tone of the most shocked disbelief I can muster... What in the hell is going on in Pennsylvania?
