When our food regulations tightened and we banned loads of US import, Safeways pulled out of the UK. No great loss. We still have a few Asda shops (owned by Walmart) and they are no better.
Cadbury Bourneville in UK is great. Not the same in the US. If I recall, Cadbury screwed up a deal/contract so Hershey is sold as Cadbury in the US. Also, Ferrero Roche in US is not same as UK or Europe. Green & Black, the brand, is great stuff too, in UK.
No longer owned by Walmart, since years ago. That's part of their current woes at ASDA. They haven't extricated their systems from Walmarts and are being charged by Walmart now, for not having stopped. Between incompetence within ASDA and competitors such as LIDL and ALDI, I'm expecting them to go down.
The tastes in chocolate are completely different in the UK and the US. Neither will sell well in the other country It goes even further, Cadburys chocolate from the Bournville plant is not popular in Ireland. They have a production plant in Dublin for the home market.
Yes, because in the US, it's Hersheys in a Cadbury wrapper but in UK it's Cadbury in a Cadbury wrapper. Some US States, at least, if not all.
We make our own homemade marshmallows; really pretty easy and the worst ingredient we use is unflavored gelatin. That stuff in the stores has probably been around since the Carter administration
They mainly specialise in dark chocolate, with about 75% high quality cocoa content. they also have orange and mint flavours using natural ingredients. It is fairly expensive. Several supermarket chains have a dark and milk chocolate range also with nuts. As well as good value for money, it is good quality. I believe that it is made in Germany. I believe that under its own brand it was first introduced by Aldi. Tescos and Sainsburys now sell it as an own brand product in their larger stores.
I'm not sure where you get your info. G&B was created by a couple in London in the 90s. Their ethical practices drew the attention of Cadbury in or around 1996 who bought G&B for £20m. Supermarket own brand does not use branded chocolate. They acquire it through the "Fair Trade" scheme, which connects individual farmers in Africa and elsewhere, with manufacturers and processors of chocolate.
