Exactly. It takes a whole lot to make a pit bull human aggressive, and that being said they are also emotional dogs. They need an alpha but they also need approval.. I'd say that 90% or greater of these instances non dog people are so afraid of have to do with shitty owners. There are also just bad dogs, of any breed. I'm just so sick of the blanket generalizations against pits that it's become almost comical to me.

And that is cool about your daughter. Maybe the two of you can get involved in something, I don't see how any people involved in that kind of thing couldn't be brought together like that.

I don't like the show at all. It just has that trashy vibe. But kudos to those it helps out.

I haven't personally heard of anyone being attacked by a different type of dog. My cat was ripped apart by my cousin's pit bull. That being said, I don't think ALL of them are violent dogs inherently. It truly is up to the owner. I'm not against the breed.

But I am not a fan of pit bulls. They're not cute. Parolees aren't much cuter either.

Well, I'm very close to both my kids, but they're very young. I mean as an adult though. She has adult children that are very close to her. I'm not very close to my parents but I see myself being that close with my kids when they're older. I'm sure it helps to have important values and passions that you share.

Also according to that pic, if you couldn't see it..."no single neutered household pit bull has ever killed anyone".

Haha, a much different statement than "no pitbull has ever killed anyone"
    ;)

Of course. But you know cocker spaniel's, daschunds and tons of other types of dogs have also killed people. I'm not saying it's not possible for anyone to be killed by one.

They are sometimes used as guard dogs, sometimes they're abused, etc. and so on.

Yes but it goes to show that the dogs shouldn't be the focus of scrutiny, the people from puppy mills and fighting rings should get the heat, as well as just bad owners. It's not the breeds fault.

I've been around a lot dogs and pits have never been aggressive. German Shepherds and Chows for me have been a lot more dangerous. They're the only two breeds that have drawn blood from me.

There are big differences between prey drive, dog aggression and human aggression.

Did your cat not kill lizards, mice, birds, etc?

I hate these threads. So here's a pic of my american pit bull sleeping in his favorite spot - on top of me haha.

If by 'treated as such'.. you mean walked on leashes and kept in fenced areas or inside (not allowed to roam around), and owned by good owners with big dog experience - sure I agree with you.

If you mean feared, discriminated against, killed or banned - then you can go fuck yourself.

actually it's interesting, there's a list of fatal attacks on wikipedia, and it starts with mostly German Shepards, then mixed with Rottweilers, and only in recent years was the Pit Bull common

LOL. Daschunds can be quite the little terrorists. I've been bitten by one. Never been bitten by a pit...go figure.

Anyway, I think the daschund actually killed a kid or baby and the same with the cocker spaniel that I read about although there has been more than one case of each. Too much research for me to do.

The problem with dog attack statistics is that they just go by the victims word. There are so many different breeds that get mistaken for "pit bulls" it's not even funny. My dog is a Bullmastiff and she regularly gets mistaken as a pit. I've seen people scream pitbull at a lab before because she was scared of it.

I was playing with a dachshund when I was little and it ripped my ear partially off. Had to get it sewn back together.

Been attacked by a beagle, 2 boxers, and a chow. I'm cautious of shepherds, chows and akitas.

I've yet to meet a pit that wasn't friendly to me, even chained up fighting dogs. Yes I've been exposed to that (never been to a fight) and I ripped the owners new assholes when I found out what they were doing.

Edit: pits and other animals is hit or miss. For example some will get dominated by cats, some don't mind cats, some kill them. I think a lot of that has to do with upbringing, but nevertheless if a pit is aggressive to other animals it requires a vigilant responsible owner. Any pit does just because of their strength. But the attacking humans bit is so overhyped it's ridiculous. They make horrible guard dogs because they love people so much, dog fighters steal pits right out of people's backyards all the time.

That and they don't know if the dog has been abused. But yeah the dog in my pic was a bull mastiff.

I brought my weimaraner to the vet the other day and two black labs tried to rip him to shreds. The owner could barely control them. The funny part was my dog just stood there and yawned at them.
