Yeah...he accidentally got let out. A friend of mine came over to my apartment to find me, and I didn't answer when he knocked. So, he opened the door and came in to see if I was sleeping or something. I usually keep Bo in his crate, but, that day I didn't cuz I knew I was going to be at my mom's for a few hours. (Which is where I was when this all happened.) So, when he opened the door, Bo ran out. I guess he was just takin' a leak in the yard when the lady walked by, and he ran up to her. He's super-friendly, as most pits are. But, she freaked out really bad. Animal control in my town is two guys, and they're both dip-shits. Plus, the former dog warden was fighting pits, so they're trying to make this big "statement" by euthanizing almost every pit that they come into contact with. Its just nuts. Almost every day in the paper, there is a letter from someone proclaiming that we should eliminate the breed entirely. I live in a very dog-UNfriendly community. Which SUCKS. The place that I used to live, Chapel Hill, NC, was SOOOO dog friendly! I could bring my dogs to the bars, and into like, video stores and stuff. I really miss that sort of environment. There, they probably would have been more likely to take the dog's side, and not that dumb lady's. I appreciate your kind words, girls. It really helps. I took my other dog to the beach today, for the first time since Bo got put down, and I just sat there and cried! I used to take the two of them there to run every day. Its just so sad...I miss him like crazy. He used to sleep with me every night. He'd have to put his head on my pillow and snuggle up in my arms. He wasn't happy unless we were "spooning". HAHAHAHAHA! What a goof. But, I'll tell ya, I'll never have another one unless I've got a big fenced in yard, and there aren't people around. I don't want to go through this again. Cuz you know what? If that had been my pet poodle that ran up to that lady, he'd still be alive today. But, I have been thinking alot about going to the newspapers...maybe working with the humane society and starting a Pit Bull education program or something. There is a HUGE dog-fighting problem in my town and the surrounding areas.
I dont like them, Theyre not very kind dogs, even if you treat them good. Its being made illegal to own them now in NZ cos they're so violent.
definately talk to the humane society. also, abit of poking on the web will surely provide you with a pitt bull enthusiast or rescue group who would be very interested in what has happened to you and to your pup.
Squish- Yeah....its so crazy. The whole thing has exhausted me so much. And, I realize that my stupid little town is all corrupt and nasty and I feel as if I don't know how much I want to challenge them directly. I think that more of an educational/advocate role would be appropriate for me right now than to take on the city. *sigh* 8foot Sativa girl...um, you have probably been smoking too much sativa, sweetie. I hate to tell you this, but, without a doubt, Pit Bulls are the sweetest, funniest, most loyal and loving dogs in the world. Kind is an understatement. Of course, as I said in a previous post, their natural instincts cannot be ignored, but if you are an experieced dog owner, and know a bit about how the canine brain operates, you don't see these things as handicaps, just something to be aware of. The problems come when stupid people own the dogs. People that have no idea what they are dealing with. My Pit Bull would let ANYONE come into my house without so much as a bat of an eyelash. He cuddled with my cats. He allowed my small nephew to climb all over him. He loved every dog he ever met. He just didn't quite know what to make of it when people started screaming and waving their arms around. The problem with Pit Bulls is not that they necessarily have the propensity to bit any more than any other dog, its just more dangerous when they do. They've got powerful jaws (its a myth that the jaws "lock") and can do some serious damage. But, I'll tell ya. My grandpa used to have this poodle. The damn thing was older than me. It used to attack EVERYONE. That thing was truly frightening.
I guess you've never met a pitbull that has been treated nicely. Too bad. My pit is a little angel. Gets along with everyone. Loves attention and everyone around him. You should search on the internet. You'll probably find some good information about them.
