Well- as long as you know every Italian isn't like that. My supervisor is Italian... thick accent and all. Probably one of the coolest heads I've ever worked with and one of the very few reasons our department functions as well as it does. Of course the second generation Italian who runs a press during the days is an annoying fuck who has difficulty with the concept of personal space. Decent pressman- though he's more likable when he's pissed at the world and stays away from the rest of us!

My guess is that your demeanor changes when you're around them and they sense your unease somehow. This could be what's drawing unwanted attention.
