To bad it can't be restored to the Native American holy place it ones was... You know that desecration was done on purpose. None of the 4 that are there now deserve to be there, it should never have been done in the first place.
Gee, if memory serves--and it does--Roosevelt was the president that ordered the confiscation of the people's gold. Would you really want some big-ass sculpted likeness of his face on some cliff to remind you of that fact?
for now i can only settle on 1...Jimmy Carter I'd have to agree with the post quoted below: IF the question didn't specify American Presidents, I too, would have some better answers.
I didn't know about the gold confiscation thing until I looked it up. The justification was that gold hoarding was undermining the economy during the depression and WWII. People were given compensation for turning over hoarded gold. Seems like there was a reason for it. FDR was a primary figure in winning WWII. Deserves a place among the greatest presidents, and world leaders, of all time.
This is from another thread, but seems pertinent to your idea that the confiscation was a virtuous act: In fact, regarding the price of gold: Once the Gold was effectively confiscated from the People and was illegal to own, the Government raised the Value of Gold for International Transactions from the price paid to the people of $20.67 per troy ounce to $35 per troy ounce. What this did was lower the value of the Dollar Instantly. While the International Value of Gold rose by +69%, it devalued the dollar by the same amount. The people found their dollars to be worth -69% less then when they accepted it. This made it even harder for the people to survive in what was already a Depression. ___________________________________________ Perhaps you should see this, too: http://www.fgmr.com/myths-and-reality-of-gold-confiscation.html http://www.gold-eagle.com/editorials_08/nielson031411.html
Now that gold is legal to own again, the value has gone from $300 an ounce to $1800 an ounce just during Shrubs time in the White House. Talk about letting the dogs out. Can't wait to see them try to eat gold when the economy totally collapses. Do they really believe that those with food are going to trade food for gold? BWHA HA HA!
My point here is not that gold confiscation was or was not a virtuous act. Rather, that there was reason behind it. It may have been a terrible policy, and it may have been a good policy. FDR was a major figure in winning WWII. Whether or not he also had a good or bad policy regarding gold is, by comparison, meaningless.
Well President Obama should definitely be there having achieved the ultimate milestone in becoming our nation’s first black president :2thumbsup: Hail to the chief Hotwater
I don't care. He won WWII. Let's say he decided to seize people's gold because he just decided that he wanted to be an asshole. He still won WWII.
You see an asshole. I see a thief! ______________________________ And my understanding is that Roosevelt had to have had prior knowledge of the attack on Pearl Harbor. "Confirmation of Dutch foreknowledge of the Japanese attack also came from General Albert C. Wedemeyer. In 1980 he informed the author that during a meeting in 1943, Vice Admiral Conrad E. L. Helfrich of the Royal Netherlands Navy expressed wonder that the Americans had been surprised at Pearl Harbor. The Dutch, Helfrich said, had broken the code and knew that the Japanese were going to strike Pearl Harbor. "He seemed surprised that I did not know this," recalled Wedemeyer, "and when I explained that I doubted seriously that this information was known in Washington prior to Pearl Harbor attack, Admiral Helfrich was skeptical because it was his clear recollection that his government had notified my government." http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/WOO203A.html Soooo . . .
But anyway, back to my choices. I believe that the Professor, bless his heart, truly had the well being of everyone on the island in mind at all times. And I think the Skipper, come hell or high water, backed the Professor 100%. Gilligan, though inept a majority of the time, was an honest soul who wouldn't dream of taking advantage of the others; not even for all the coconut-cream pies Mary Ann and Ginger could make in a year (Mrs. Howell couldn't be bothered to help with the pies; money will do that to a person). And Thirston Howell the 3rd, while failing to contribute in any meaningful way, must nevertheless be given credit for not using his money to corrupt the others. Of course, the actions of these four guys were pretty much dictated by the writers of the show. But then again, so are the actions of the people in office. So, I guess it really doesn't matter whose faces are put up on Mt. Rushmore. Either way, it would be a tribute to illusion.
On second thought, I wouldn't have a problem with myself, Pressed Rat, Papa Wolf, and Individual up there in stone. And we would have fed-up looks on our faces, with our teeth perhaps bared . . .
ok, even if he was a gold-stealing asshole/thief, he had prior knowledge of the attack on Pearl Harbor, AND he secretly plotted to pacify the populace by adding fluoride to the water supply, he still won WWII
