Lol, no... the closest guess so far was metal rings but they aren't quite rings as they don't form a complete circle

Might they be rings that are punched into a wall, in a row, for such purposes as cabling? There's so much thinking going on with this, I can feel an invention coming about!

This is close enough. They are hooks not a rings but they can be screwed into a wall to hold things.

Crikey; even with the answer, I still don't get it from the initial image. lol
That said, if you'd only used one of them in that initial image, we'd all have got it in one.
