Phone Number Exchange?

Nobody's called me yet. It's not naive and it's not stupid. You people are just overly paranoid.

 

well if every person would take a look and call, then i would prolly chang emy number and this is it.. lol so dont get me wrong, you just scared of something that wont happend..

I just want everyone to know this is a place for people to
A) work on setting up a phone-number contact list somehow/somewhere
or
B) share their numbers if they are not worried about having them in the public view

Is it 'risky' to post your phone number? Sure.
But in a forum where people admit to illegal drug usage and post nude pictures of themselves every day...is it any more 'stupid'?

If you feel uncomfortable with putting yoru number out there for whatever reason, than don't...I felt that way for a long time myself, and I understand that point of view.

But nowadays I am not concerned with who may or may not call me, and it seems some others out there aren't either. I don't believe this thread or any posts within it break any forum guidelines...but if the powers that be deem fit to shut it down, I suppose that's their call.

As for everyone tossing insults the way of those who are sharing - we're all well aware of the horrors that may befall us, and how 'stupid' we are. That said, we have decided to share anyway. I have not had any bad experiences resulting from this, and it looks like no one else has either.


Like the mod said...if you DO decide to put down your number, BE AWARE that pretty much anyone on the internet can/will see it. This means it is POSSIBLE that you'll get weird calls at all hours, harassed, pranked, etc. I still think it would also be a good idea to put together a more private "phone registry" type of thing somehow, and I'm open to ideas on it. Also, -please- only put a number that belongs to only you. If you're living at home with your family, don't put your home number - I'm sure your parents don't want the phone ringing all night. Put down your personal number, or your cell number so if someone calls no one but you will have to deal with the call.

if after all of that you still want to put it here...well, have fun. The thread isn't locked(yet) and here's hoping it doesn't end up that way.

i wanted to tell that.. as yer giving out yer real name I think you should be even more worried, couse as people know yer real name, they can get to yer address, phone nr, allkind of important numbers and in this case i suppose you should be worried..
If human being is an idiot, or a bit ill in whatever way and wants to abuse in somekind of way.. well then it will happend..
Anyway i dont know how many calls yuou got, but i havent had any..
so i dont get why yer worried about?
oooor... is it my thingy as i live in estonia, and calling would be helly expensive? :O

SMS... I stay in contact regularly through SMS with an old girlfriend. It costs me the same to text her as texting someone in the US. Of course, we both have T-MOBILE and this is US->Czech ... I'm unsure of other carriers and countries...

As far as posting phone numbers. It is true that search engines and web crawlers index data like phone numbers and emails. It may take time, but eventually you most likely will start to get some phone calls. It's like registering to try and win those Cruises. A year later your number is sold to every solicitor out there and you might be getting 10 calls a day.

But what's even worse is calling someone stupid/ignorant etc.. for posting their numbers. Everyone's opinion holds some value; however, the way it is expressed is the important part. The way I think... This place is for showing love and caring.

I just wanted to point out a good calling-related website for everyone.
www.sprintrelayonline.com is a site where you can make free calls anywhere, anytime.
(I think it is still running)

Anyway, you go there and type the number you'd like them to call. The operator then calls the number, and relays whatever you or the other person says back and forth...you type in what you'd like to say, and they say it...then they type in what the other person says.
It's free and works pretty well....might help some folks make long-distance calls with no problems

Though it has been around for a long while and seems to have withstood massive prankster invasions before...and I do believe the people here will use it sparingly and responsibly, if at all.
If you think it's in bad taste to have it posted, though, I'll take it out.

Because someone says or believes something which you believe to not be true does not mean what they say or think has no value. You will learn this sort of thing as you grow from being a child.
