They also froze somethingawful.com's paypal donation account for hurricane katrina. The tricks to using paypal are simple: #1: THe moment you recieve money, transfer it to either your bank account, or purchase something. Never keep more than $100 in it. #2: They WILL NOT refund any service, period. That means web hosting, dedicated servers, any online service; they will simply close the complaint. #3: Their service takes forever. Don't bother asking for chargebacks except in cases of non-delivered goods. #4: If possible, use a gold-backed service, such as e-gold. A lot of the stuff written in that article: http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/4410.html was somewhat misleading. Very few, if any large companies will release legal or business information. It's common practice not to. Anybody who uses paypal agrees to the TOS and AUP, and is therefore gimpified. If you complain, after signing up, that is the user's fault. Don't get me wrong, I hate paypal, but reading TOS's and AUP's is a necessary evil.
I agree with you on #1. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you run into a problem with pay-pal you may wind up with a negative balance on your bank account. But, that is better than losing cash. I also agree that people should read the TOS!!!! Most people either don’t read it at all, if they do they don’t fully understand it, or don’t think “it” will happen to them.
While you post may be true, it is also a bit short sighted. If it was just a simple mater of reading the TOS and deciding not to sign up you would not see so many people outraged about pay pals conduct. If you go to www.paypalsucks.com, you can’t read all the complaints in one day. That suggests something more than people simply not understanding the TOS. Furthermore, just because you agree to their TOS that does not make what pay pal does right or legal.
