    LOL!!

As if humans were made to eat copious amounts of sugar and refined foods. We DO know the long-term effects of doing this. If there are any long-term effects of eating whole and unprocessed foods, which there are, they can only be positive.

And no, it is not "new" at all, hence the word paleo, which stems from the word paleolithic. While we could argue all day about the implications of that word itself, the simple fact of the matter is that the current way of eating has made many people sick. The paleo diet, or whatever one chooses to call it, has completely turned many people's lives around, myself included.

Paleo is just a name -- and yes it is very trendy at the moment -- but there is nothing new about eating whole and unrefined foods while eliminating things which are known to make people sick and end their lives prematurely.

And this is the reason why people are sick. It's because of their lifestyles. It's because they eat a Standard American Diet of processed, refined, sugar-laden shit. Humans have not evolved to consume massive amounts of sugar and refined carbohydrates, and thus the obesity epidemic we have today has resulted, as well as skyrocketing rates of diabetes, cancer, hypertension, metabolic disorder, Alzheimers, etc. These are all brought on by diet and diet alone.

To me it almost sounds like you're trying to rationalize your own poor health and diet choices by being overly critical of something that has actually worked for countless numbers of people. This is likely the reason for its growing popularity. While there are fad diets out there, the paleo diet is not one of them. Perhaps the label "paleo" (which I also hate) is trendy at the moment, but there is hardly anything trendy about the lifestyle that paleo living entails.

I understand completely adopting a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle because of moral values. I can't understand however, adopting ANY diet because you heard around from some people that it might be the solution to your weight issues, or fatigue, or whatever else.

I might agree on an extreme diet. But fiddling around with adding veggies and fruits, and taking out processed meats/fats, refined carbohydrates and excess sugar?
Sure, let food be your medicine.

Also, PR, you asked up thread about my comment on high fat diets.
I truly meant HIGH fat diets, not a reasonable balance of whole foods.

    Thanks for clarifying.

I would say it depends on the type of fats you're eating and the sources of those fats. I eat a ketogenic diet which is approximately 75% fat, a good portion if which is saturated fat.

The body handles fat completely different on a low carb diet, since it is being burned for energy as opposed to stored in the body.
