Broken Social Scene are about as indie as indie gets. They define indie. And yeasayer. You're not immune to labels. I think your analogy was very apt Dean. Its so true.
AKA Brooklyn, a major capital of indie rock. but indie isn't any one "sound", it's an aesthetic more than anything. also, Yeasayer fit well into a certain type of indie group, like Animal Collective or High Places of Gang Gang Dance or Ponytail.
i would say yeasayer is psychedelic indie. i don't hate all indie bands, just a lot of them shit on instruments and call it music. i'm not fond of the singer of yeasayer, honestly. gotta love BSS, though.
yes but the given label of "unlabelable" is in fact a definitive label. I think this could catch on, guys.
Belle & Sebastian is good, Pink Floyd is good, Explosions in the Sky is good. They all have their place. I don't really care much about things being overrated in niche circles. 3 out of 5 people on the street would have no idea who any of these artists are, except Pink Floyd. Much respect for the classics. The things they did with music back then was groundbreaking, anyone who can't at least respect that is just a douche.
I totally agree with this, but Pink Floyd still suck balls and make me want to stab myself in the penis.
I'm actually all for labels when it comes to music, as long as they apply. "indie" is a special case though, since Calvin Johnson, Health, Will Oldham and My Bloody Valentine all fit under the indie blanket.
Who here likes Pennywise? I think it takes a lot of talent to sound the same for 10 years and use power chords in every song.
