overpopulation

I know what you mean. I mean, it's horrible when lots of people die in disasters and shit and if I could I would help them anyway I could. But I do feel reassured that the earth is capable of taking care of itself.
When you think of all the thousands of offspring that would spawn from one person and then look at all the people who died, you realize that overpopulation isn't as big a problem as you think.

 

Well I'm VHEMT (www.vhemt.org) so there is my contribution to overpopulation and the environment.

 

I was VHEMT for a few years in the mid 90s. There are some cool people there. They raffle a vasectomy every year on Valentines day I think? Or they used to.

 

Pfft... thats what the aliens did on Star Trek. I'm sure it would work for us too.

 

You could also just have one child per family. It might not wipe out the human race but it would definitly slim it down.
But 'Voluntary Extinction' is a bit too extreme for me...

I think the Poll answers itself, the term over-populated tends to stipulate a problem so you can't really answer no to it... it's more a question of if we are over populated, certainly some parts of the world are, but most of the world isn't over populted, the planet can support the population, it's just that the present population is a captialist consumer population that produces products/food and uses natural resources as a means to trade and keep a system of oppression on the masses. If our homes were built into the ground rather than on it and we produced and worked only for need then we would all have more time and less stress and have more green space, no more rich or poor, no-one on either side seems very happy on the whole.... you have to remember we are still very much still in the dark ages, there is a lot of enlightened people on the planet but there are still more that are living in poverty without education. People and societies still have leaders like George Bush, we are barely out of the woods, and in many respects our heads are still firmly stuck in the mud..... see you in the next life, whatever form that happens to be...

 

Overpopulation is a complex issue. Maybe this analogy explains where the world is at. An anorexic girl and an obese guy walk into a doctor's office after he asks both to come in from the waiting room. He says that there is a problem. The 80 pound anorexic and the 500 pound guy listen.


The doctor then says that their average weight is 580 divided by 2 which means they average 290 pounds a piece. The doctor then says they both need to go on a strict diet and take up a vigorous exercise program.

Telling people in nations with a tremendous negative birthrate (Canada, US, Japan, South Korea, and all of Europe) that they need to limit their families to two or less is like telling the anorexic she needs to lose weight.

 

Yes to over population. I would put more effort into issue but i can't think straight. I am exhausted.

 

overpopulation is wicked... theres wayyy too many humanoids haunting this earth, and it doesnt seem to be stoppin. everyone of em seems to have 2 dumbass kids as george carlin says, and no generation seems to be showing and signs of hope or waking up. i think overpopulation deducts happiness from the ones here. the more people, the less crap and freedom they get, and the worse deals in life people tend to recieve. it made a lot more sense when i thought about it, but overpopulation really does suck i think... its selfish to make a kid now a days imo. humans are NOOT that precious, i mean, were precious and all.. but not nearly as precious or as important or good as we convince ourselves. the earth could go without a whole lot of us eaasily. weve not been too good or respectful to it, or even ourselves really...

 

I'll bet that within 50 years there'll be people living on the moon or mars. That's one solution. I don't know if I could go for that, I kind of like going outside alot.
