I must have been mad to find those portions within the 'treaty' that may or may not prove a god damn thing :p

I wonder what percentage did it for ulterior motives ? Other than a critique of the actual document.

A lot probably.. but that's the fault of our government.. we don't trust their guidance and advice.. so how can we trust them to know what's best for us when representing our country in the EU? Just being protective of the country.. for whatever reasons..

Do you not trust the Treaty then ? .. thats what the vote is about.

I suppose if you have lost trust in your goverment that is a hard thing to regain, but i think it should be put to one side; considering the ramifications of the vote. I think the view of the present goverment (whoever that might be) should be a secondary even not put under no consideration at all. Is not the treaty the main focus of consideration. This 'treaty' will go on further than any goverment that is in office at present. If you disagree with what is in the treaty then saying 'no' is worth while .'Punishing' a goverment you don't trust does what for the future of the E.U.

I understand other things are always taken into consideration, i just wonder if saying 'NO' for 'other' reasons is worth the gratification.

I still have not heard why people consider it a portent to a 'eurostate' ?.

One down a few hundred million to go :p

Although the UK is not having a referendum now I would vote no because it entrenches the unelected chambers as supreme and encroaches on national sovereignty. Also it committs us to neo-liberal trade policies and doesn't say enough on protecting the environment.

I am for a constitution, just not this one.

Matthew.. I'd love to have this conversation in Dutch with you, because the exerpts from the constitution that I have and that made me decide to vote 'no' were all in Dutch.. plus it's very closely aligned to the subject of my thesis (that of a liberal almost economical approach to the youth welfare branche).. but my expertise lies in the Dutch slang.. so as you can see, I have a hard time explaining it on the same level as I would in my own language so.. sorry..

Sadly my Dutch is none existant. Heck i though i was insulting you , not that you found it difficult to respond . Your off my ignore list now (hehe just kidding).

There are a multitude of other E.U policies on the environment.. 'what more do you want' i apologise if that came out harsh ?.

Hehe.. I'm not easily insulted ;) I find it a really interesting subject but the language barrier plus the fact that I've been over this topic over and over and over the last couple of weeks with Dutchies has kinda made me tired of it ;)

Just wanted to let you know that my NO vote wasn't solely a signal to our current government.

I had a few doubts about that :p .. Yeah i guessed you had a multitude of reasons. I was just enquiring about 1, you said the same thing as a few people; i wanted a bit of peoples mindset that thought that way. I guess most people have gone over it a few times already.. no worries.
