Early this week I went to Coney Island (NY). I saw a barefoot woman with very dirty feet. I said "I see we like the same color shoes!". She was from Virginia where she would be returning to college, probably by today. She had some toe rings and leather ankle bracelets like mine. She went to classes barefoot and also had little problems barefooting in high school. Her soles were tough and filthy like mine. She was visiting her aunt. Even though Coney Island is right on the beach, the only barefooters you usually see are those who just come up for a Nathan's hot dog or drink. Cheryl was one of the very few 'true' barefooters I've seen in a very long time. Years ago I'd see at least 6 other 'true' barefooters with dirty, tough feet in Greenwich Village, etc. Not anymore :-( That's how I met two ex-girlfriends. Barefoot in the Village.

Finally winter is coming to an end! It was 15 degrees today and the sun shone. Heaps of girls at the mall this morning in flip flops, and one teenage girl in bare feet. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come in the next few months...

I've seen one guy consistently going to an 11:00 am class barefoot outside, carrying sandals - slide flip-flop types that are not thongs. He puts them on before entering the building :(

I wonder if I should gently try talking him into just going barefoot even inside campus buildings.

big change in my neighborhood: i start seeing repeatedly young people barefoot with no shoes in sight who don't seem to mind if the asphalt gives them charcoal black soles. :cheers2: maybe it's a slight turn in the perception of barefooting. i mean, people sticks to really weird (for me) fashion statements like extreme tattooing, piercings of the wackiest kind -on guys too- nudity, why not bare feet as well ?

Went to the ATM tonight (barefoot of course). The ATM was in a vestibule inside the front of the credit union. I was leaving after getting some cash when I saw a car stop and a guy jump out - barefoot! He was on his way to the ATM as well. There were another guy and a girl in the car. Couldn't help but wonder if they were barefoot as well. They never got out.

I was in the Greensboro, NC airport yesterday. While I was waiting for my flight to board, a barefoot woman came walking through the terminal. Unfortunately, after she sat down she put on some skimpy sandals, but she was barefoot for quite a while.

When I was getting gas yesterday evening, the car at the next pump was being filled by a girl in her early 20's. Despite the cool temperature, she was in shorts, with a very nice pair of dirty bare feet.

This morning I saw a young couple in their 20's walking up a street, the female was barefoot and looks as though she had no shoes in sight. Very interested in seeing where they were headed, I followed them around while driving my pick up truck, they ended up sitting down at a bus depot waiting for a ride. Cool!

Not a lot of batrefoot sightings in my neck of the woods.

I have often wondered about that, posted about that on this forum. All I can say is, at least they're out of their shoes! And acceptance of this "near barefoot" mode has increased and widened. It's something. But I do wonder, like you, whether it just keeps more of us from the real thing.

Honestly, I usually don't notice others if they are barefoot or not... never really paid attention. People don't usually notice when I am either :)

I meant to post this yesterday, but never got around to it. :p

Yesterday morning, I was on my way back home from running a few errands. As I drove through my neighborhood, I spotted a young girl (teenager) barefoot with her skateboard, waiting for me to pass so she could cross the street.

Later that afternoon, I was on my way home from the grocery store and spotted a young (20s) lady walking on the sidewalk barefoot, but I think she was carrying her sandals in one hand.

Today during my lunch break, I went to a local Trader Joe's store to pick up a few things. As I entered the store, I was thinking of how nice it would be to walk around barefoot, especially in the refrigerated sections where the floor tiles would be nice and cold. :) What was funny was, as I turned to go down the aisle where the vitamin supplements are located, there was a guy standing there looking at some other items nearby, and he was barefoot! Unfortunately, I never had a chance to speak with him, as he turned to leave, headed to the checkout stands. He must be an everyday barefooter, because I could see that the soles of his feet were black. None of the store employees cared that he was barefoot, that I could tell.

  14. Barefoot grocery shopping is a treat. I go to Acme, where I've never been bothered, and the variety of flooring is indeed enjoyable. Who'd'a'thunk? Most supermarkets have been barefoot-friendly. The self-proclaimed "customer-friendly" Whole Foods has been quite the opposite.

I'm currently in Houston on business. Tonight I was with one of my co-workers in the Marriott Hotel lobby waiting for a third person to join us. As we were sitting there, I saw an attractive woman, late 20's/early 30's, get off the elevator and walk toward the hotel door. It appeared she wasn't wearing shoes, but it's rare to find someone bold enough to go barefoot through a hotel ,lobby (although I do it all the time). As she passed, I realized not only wasn't she wearing shoes, but she wasn't carrying any sandals with her either!! I probably would have made a positive comment to her, but being with a co-worker it would have been a bit awkward. Nonetheless, I was very impressed!!

I'm still in Houston. I came back from work late this afternoon and saw a woman exiting the hotel who looked like the one I'd seen earlier this week. She was with a couple of male friends, and I got the impression they were probably headed out for dinner. Curious, I made a detour so I'd pass her. Sure enough, she was barefoot, soiled soles circling her high arches on the bottoms, no footwear of any type was evident, and she was carrying the same purse I recall seeing earlier. Looks like I've come across another hardcore barefooter!

On my way to work this morning, I dropped off a bill in a mailbox located in the parking lot of a Chase bank. As I drove to the other side of the bank parking lot to exit, I spotted a guy who looked to be in his 30s using one of the ATMs dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, and he was also barefoot. I was wondering if he was cold, because the outdoor temperature at the time (about 7:50 a.m.) was in the mid-50s.
