I'm gonna ask a stupid question. And I am not being funny. I thought Southern Cali was always warm.

Compared with most other areas of the country--yes. This week we're having August weather in November, with daytime high temperatures in the 90s F/32 C, when it's usually in the upper 60s F/15.5 C. Fine time to be barefoot outdoors for sure. :sunny:

In South africa, its no strange thing. On A weekend, somethmes, just in our local mall, you wil at least see six adults, male and female barefoot,i suppose its because all our publick primary schools are barefoot schools, its common to see barefoot kids, all ages,so it rubs of on parents, which also went to school barefoot.

    Kia Ora Ni Hao!

saw a lady in the grocery store with bf/husband. she was barefoot. it was funny being a shoe wearer around another barefooter. she must be a hardcore barefooter because it is rainy and cool.

    Cheers!

On my way home from lunch, I was driving through my neighborhood when I spotted a young guy (looks like he was high school age) walking his dog barefoot. Today was a beautiful day to do it, too. (About 68 F/20 C.) :sunny:

That's the third person I've seen here in my neighborhood walking a dog barefoot. If I had a dog, I'd be doing that as well. :)

Friday, December 17, my wife and I flew out of Denver. I'll go most anywhere barefoot weather permitting, but it was 23 deg F (-5 deg C), and that's about 40 deg F cooler than what I find comfortable for venturing out without shoes. Nonetheless, there was a guy in the security line in jeans, a winter coat, and bare feet. I figured he must have kicked off his shoes for the scan, but we caught up with him on the train out to the concourses. Yup, still barefoot and no shoes in sight. Not sure what to make of it, but he definitely qualified as "barefoot in public."

(I wasn't sure what thread to post this to.) No, I haven't seen him in public, but I did come across this pic online recently:

    Not barefoot, buuuut....

Today was the first school day in about 3 months during which it's been 40 degrees or warmer. I saw a pair of flip-flops and a pair of strappy sandals. Unfortunately, I was a pussy and wore tennis shoes.

Here's another Matthew Fox barefoot pic I found online, this one from the TV show "Lost", which I don't watch:

That sounds nice. I've been "asked" to leave a store for being barefoot on far too many occasions. "Proper attire required", whatever that really means.
Last week I went to a birthday party for my little nephew held at a local park that has a swing set with sand all around it. I was the only one who didn't wear shoes. One other mom took off her sandals and went barefoot in the sand along with a few of the kids. That's the first time I've seen anyone else barefoot so far this year.

When I travel, especially out of state, upon arrival at my destination I stay barefoot as much as possible, like until "they" ask me to leave or put shoes on. That usually means I have to leave bc if I'm barefoot atm, I wont have any shoes with me.
Going barefoot helps me not to feel so lost when out in a new place. Even if I dont know where I am, like when lost - as frequently happens to me, being barefoot helps me feel "grounded" and not as lost. Feeling the earth and grass touching my feet is reassuring for me, I D K Y - maybe cause I'm a hippie. ;)

When I was in Sydney in Januari, I saw a guy walking barefoot carrying his girlfriends high heels. And the girlfriend was wearing his gigantic flup-flaps. Quite funny.

I saw a lot of barefooters in Australia, and I must say that most of them did not look very neat, even for Ozzie standards (sorry).

Although Lynne might not become a full-time barefooter, I loved reading about her one reason for trying it out, especially this line:

"I'm looking forward to feeling the connection between myself and the ground, of literally feeling 'grounded'. It feels 'heart-led' rather than ‘head-led’; heart is an anagram of earth – heart and earth will be connected. "

A wonderfully nice and simple piece of barefoot truth, really.

    Wiggling bare toes,

She has a fair number of practical reasons for not going barefoot all the time. But then she has some that are just plain nonsense. Hopefully her first barefoot steps will enlighten her to that fact. I've always said "free your feet and your mind will follow", and I truly believe that going barefoot (or any activity that is "outside" the norm of most people's experience) can open you to new ideas and new ways of thinking.

Her article inspired me to try my own barefoot supermarket shop today, something ive not had the guts to do so far. It was only a local co-op and it was darn obvious I wasnt wearing shoes! I didnt get a single funny look or comment from any of the customers and the lady at the checkout glanced down for a second and then smiled. Im not sure it would go so smoothly in some of the larger supermarkets in the UK but hopefully il find out in the coming weeks.

  20. I've found that a good pair of barefoot sandals works wonders for one's self-confidence AND fooling others into believing one is wearing something. Supermarket shopping barefoot is a hoot---don't miss it! Coming to a market near you!
