If you had a cool head, you wouldn't need the gun.

Yeah, I should let someone rob me, break into my home, shoot up a business I'm at, kidnap me or let a killer keep murdering random people at will. Not sure which planet you're from, but here on Earth we have this thing called reality, and in that reality shit happens more often to those who aren't prepared.

Reality learns that grabbing your legal gun in the situations you give examples of can turn out either way. No, you should not let someone rob you or break into your home just like that. Nobody is arguing that :p Yes, when you are in a store that is being robbed while you there you could grab your gun and try to solve the issue, but is it the best option? No not always. It really depends on the details. Having a gun in such a situation though will probably make one decide to go with it (because hey I'm a good guy and I'm not carrying for nothing).

Sometimes the best preparation is avoiding certain people from getting a gun in the first place. And certainly avoid certain guns from being available to the average citizen. You really have to have a solid reason to carry or even own a M16 for example. If you are a responsible gun owner you do not have to get your panties in twist. You have the right to protect your home with a firearm, and apparently you can carry concealed in a store too. But that open carry in a store will prevent stuff is arguable. Could go either way too.

It absolutely could go either way, being armed gives you an advantage. It's that simple. To you MI6 comment, so what? We have 3 similar models and enjoy firing on our land for no other reason than to shoot and talk about whatever. A sidearm may not have as many rounds but the magazines are quicker to change out, and are used in more crimes daily. A .308 hunting rifle is just as powerful as the 5.56 but doesn't look nearly as scary or tactical, which is why the media and politicians never bring it up.

Excess and personal wants are defined by just that. There are people out there who own 3 cars, 2 homes and $1million worth of jewelry. You really need a solid reason to drive all three cars to visit your 2 homes while wearing a million in jewelry, or to even own such things for example. Don't you think?

Kind of, but where it comes to a home and car the bacis purpose is already different. Surely though one should have a license to drive either of those cars to avoid the owner being an irresponsible owner/user. Same with guns, and that's why I made the obvious m16 comment.
If a person can and wants to buy 3 cars and 2 houses etc. he's not a risk to anyone, so no one actually doesn't need to have a good reason to have even 10 cars and 20 houses :p Not in the same regard as with a firearm. Obviously you can see the difference as well.

It is cool that people who own such a gun merely wants to shoot it at their own land, having a fun chat while they're at it. But this doesn't mean every american citizen is entitled to that kind of 'harmless' fun ;) They are all entitled to try to get a license. When there appears good reason to not give one such a permit it would be stupid to risk public safety (as reality has proven in the past).

You are so right, M. The Republicans always cherry pick from the Constitution, from the Bible, and from Capitalism. From all three they take just enough to enforce their way on us, and require us to live under their corporate command economy, without Freedom, without Capitalism.

Like the Democrats don't cherry pick from the Constitution??

It's amazing how gullible people can be when both parties are funded by the big banks the corporations, and have many of the exact same policies. How is Obama or Hillary's foreign policy any different from your average warhawk Republican?

It's not like someone with a gun was never shot.

HI PR, remember from Logic Class in college: Some P is Q, all P is Q, no P is Q...well it's the same here. I didn't say anything about the Democrats. I have no doubt some Democrats cherry pick to advance their own agenda. The foreign policies are similar in some ways and different in others. I did not support any of the wars. I do not support the giving of aid to Egypt, or Israel, or Turkey. I don't think we need islands in the Indian ocean to launch another war. I don't care if China claims some ocean water on the other side of the world. I do care when Congress right here passes anti worker, anti poor, anti environment legislation. Neither one of us is going to fix all the world's problems. We can have morality in mind when we go to vote. It's all we have left in this age of electronic surveillance.

A lot of the US involvement in foreign policy is a chess match. What happens on the other side of the world can change things at home dramatically.

RNC starts soon. Haven't seen any local news about anyone building up a storm so far. Perhaps things will remain peaceful. Just sorta have my doubts as do a lot of people in the area, the way things are going around the world and in the country.

A lot of passionate people out there!

Yeah, I came to this thread to post a link to this too.

Fuck all that. Open carry advocates made their bed, now they have to lie in it.

I do feel bad for the police officers who have to deal with this shit storm, but you cant suspend someone's gun rights just because they're black. The same gun rights logic that apllies to white rednec ks must also apply to the Black Panthers.

It pisses me off they're requesting this to be honest. How hypocritical.

If they are legal then they would be law abiding. People who carry are more law abiding than those who don't mostly.
