That's very interesting. We were just one of the only places open on Sundays and it's a little town where the churches well outnumber the businesses. There is a Mexican restaurant across the road from one of the more popular churches in town that seems to catch most of their crowd, but it didn't seem to hurt our business too bad.

Some old folks( Not All) have a sense of entitlement . They figure that they have been around for 70 yrs, so they get to play by different rules . They have already raised families, have a few grandkids , fought in wars, and made sacrifices that they had to. They went through some tough times . They figure that the youth of today shows no respect- - Even if it is only "To stay off my lawn"- They figure today's youth couldn't or wouldn't make the sacrifices they did.
Some think that younger generation is spoiled, and some don't mind letting then know about it
I try to surround my self with older folks that are less hostile, less mad at the world. They,re are plenty of kind old folks out there,,but the angry ones are the ones that get the press...

    JaCk- (not there yet:wheelchair:)

When these self same old people were young, youngsters were expected to "be seen but not heard" and to "respect their elders and their betters".

The deal was that you behaved this way when you were young ... and in due course other people would behave that way towards you when you got old.

So they did ... and they got old ... and other people didn't.

So of COURSE they're angry ... they did their bit, and then somebody reneged on the deal and changed the rules of the game.

Some of them have kept up with changes in social mores ... but not all of them have.

(Or perhaps they're just cranky because they were too OLD to enjoy the 60s :mickey: )

old people become hateful, by hating old people, from the time they are young.

old people become hateful by seeing people of all ages, including their own, refuse to connect the statistical dots, between the values and priorities they live by, and the conditions everyone has to experience.

old people become hateful by seeing the denial of how things actually work, being popularly called reality.

hateful is seldom the right word for it though. bitter is closer to it.

seeing the harmfulness of callousness and denial, often of the young, but nearly as often by people of all ages, frequently those old enough to know better.

seeing the beliefs they were taught as children to be a source of hope, instead motivating the popularity of this denial of how things actually work.

seeing every good thing twisted into monstrosity, or banality, or simply abandon entirely. it is a fail of age though, to fail to recognize other good things that come along to replace them. seldom replace directly, i don't mean, but simply other things coming along unexpectedly to fill the role of the next batch of good things.

and of course there spending your whole life learning how to live in one kind of world, without realizing how thoroughly it keeps changing, just slowing down to much to keep up with, as its changes keep speeding up, so that the world you thought you were learning how to live in, is no longer the world that you do.

this is happening so fast now, that you no longer need be old to feel and see it.

you used to have to live a long time to see the world change that much.
my generation saw it change twice in their life times.
everyone who is less then twenty now, will see it change completely at least three times.
