ya gotta know how to wear it-a kurta with lowrise fitted jeans, faded leather heels and antique dangely earings it can't alll be baggy you have to have balance...but then gain trhat's not very hippiesh
back to hippy rags.. i luv em..no matter whos wearrin em.. theres just nuthin lke the carefree hippy its a thing of beauty
i just buy what i can afford and what i like.. I dont make clothes shopping into such a big ordeal...
It's a good point that a lot of people spend massive amounts of "hippie" type clothes and say they are being different. That's very hypocritical. I don't really think it's for anyone to say what clothes are nice and which are "rags". I happen to really like the bohenmian look, but i can honestly say I have never spent more than 20 on any article of clothing in my closet. I have some long flowing skirts that I have gotten at concerts and festivals. They're more for memory and good feelings than fashion. I also have lots of jeans and shirts, some of which I have bought on sale, at Walmart, or things that have been given to me. discussing whether they look good on girls is another thing. I think a lot of the "hippie" style is very pretty. I like the apron tops, and some wrap skirts are beautiful. They accentuate the legs without having to bear them in a miniskirt. The apron tops give your boobs lift and display your back. I think that's quite sexy! I'm not sure which rags we're talking about here that make girls look frumpy and awful.
I don't usually wear rags. I wear what I like, and I do make my own clothes, I have for years. I have evening gowns that would have cost a hell of a lot more than I could afford. So what you're saying is, as long as it's not patchwork, then you're not following a trend? I don't get it. I am not a hippy, I wear what I like, everything from long velvet evening gowns and heels to patched jeans and flip flops.....
this is total bogus - I go out with molly all the time and we wear our hippy threads loud and proud and men are all over us - we even try to look ugly like janis sometimes, with our hair all messed up and pit hair and no makeup, and heads still turn when we walk by
Well, I am still wearing skirts and blouses I had in High School (went to HS in the 70s.) Gauze happens to appeal to me, not because of fashion, but because it is comfortable. Hemp is also a very earth freindly fabric (albeit kind of expensive) I wear what I feel is comfortable. Birkenstocks fit my "carried four babies to term" fat feet, and they last for years. Who else only buys shoes every 4 to 15 years but a Birkie wearer? My dh is really turned on my what some would call "hippy rags." But to him, it is just what his womyn loves to wear, and he enjoys my "rags." <shrug> What difference does it make?
personaly, when i see someone wearring all the latest fassions..or even if its not the latest but stil conforms to the norm it really doesnt inspire a second glance..perhaps a yawn or a pity nod as a recognition of existance.. but whemn i see someone who is either expressing theyre inner self outwardly..or just wearrs theyre favotite "rags" cause its what they feel good in..i find my eyes remane locked on them much longer....& instead of my eyes saying..ok..yea i see ya..your there..so what.. theresa more real connection & recognition of the deeper spirit within.. i supose i could say the 1 i'd veiew asa blank empty body dressed up to hide the emtiness inside..the other id see asa truly beautiful amazing & real person..& dressing in rags..doesnt take away fromn that beauty..it makes it way more apperrant
Well if I pick up a few things from the fall lines it's because I like them and because I used to work in the fasion industry not because I'm conforming to the norm.
we wear hippies clothes because its a collection of consciousness that not really about stereotyping even though it appears to be a stereotype but that's because anything can be given a label but its what's underneath the label that really important and all hippies believe this and that
and you better not shave what's underneath the label, or you're out of the group! seeeeeeeriously though people, i think chicks in hippy rags are hot. they look like ethereal earth mother goddesses, but it's not easy to pull off (as in, it requires no effort so people tend to try too hard and blow the whole thing)...
