I went again for a while today here in Baltimore . It's growing in numbers . Most seem well educated and aware of what's going on . Hope numbers swell across the country , and the globe. POWER TO THE PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just got back from our local protest, about 40 ppl in a short period in front of Bank of America and Chase. More were coming, and many were honking their support! Check out the turnout in Madrid tonight (a few hours ago!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjUIEAZr4Yo"]La Puerta del Sol llena por la protesta del 15O - YouTube THE PEOPLE UNITED, WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED! And I'd lost all hope for America and the world. Maybe there still is some left! Can you feel 'em shaking in their Cartier yet?
Even when I try to be as cynical as possible, I can't dismiss the weight of the anti-Wall st. protests anymore. With it going global and lasting as long as it has here, it signifies something that won't simply end at this point. Slow and steady wins the race. Major headquarters of mega-banks need to have protests out front become part of the common landscape this decade. Even though the numbers will be relatively small at first, there must always be a presence to remind the people that the mega-banks are enemy no. 1. People must learn to use the gatherings as places to communicate and educate. The movement is going to have to grow through more younger people and working class people. Typical left-right politics is going to have to be forgotten. All that matters is that you're part of the 99%. An undivided 99% is one of their greatest fears. There is no better way to live than to fight for a better tomorrow.
I see the much in the OWS movement missing a key element in the socio economic problem- that being government enabling- if not outright abetting the corporate greed- though the demands to get corporate money out of politics are spot on and get at this aspect. I get the sense that some of the demonstrators expect the solution to come from the government but as long as the campaigns are corporate funded and special interest lobbies are permitted to have intimate access to congressional ears the government will be a major part of the problem and needs to be a focus of the protest as much as big banks and Wall Street.
most people in the movement including myself look at government and corporations as one in the same. The solutions will come from us, not the government. None of us look at this as a problem that has any kind of quick fix. Thats one of the reasons we seem so unorganized, we must proceed very slowly to avoid mistakes made by previous movements. We are looking at this as our one shot to change the the way the whole world works.
A sign seen somewhere on the west coast today... "I will believe corporations are people when Texas executes one."
i just started following it.im still dont totally understand whats going on yet.learning more though. it does seem to be everybody is upset over many things.and i believe they should be.but i am concerned with it becoming violent.and i truly feel that is where this is headed
I was wonder where all these people were at when we was going to bomb bomb bomb Iraq.. Oh now you wanna come out after we wasted 3 trillion dollars.. and ruined peoples lives beyond repair.. Im an anarchist, and want no part in demonstrations of weakness... I fought your wars already,., its your turn.
