errrmmmm, methinks thou dost read too much into it my liege... i thought they found the weak spot and bullseye, caboom, deathstar is no more... great metaphor
Some images from yesterday's violence in Lower Manhattan as police tried to keep demonstrators off the streets. Jerry Greenfield, founder of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream was at the demonstration handing out ice cream.
The movement has now gone WORLD WIDE! Protests happening in Tokyo, London, Australia, the Philippines, Rome, Berlin, Madrid, Frankfurt, Lisbon and elsewhere! Today is the big day, get out there and join the movement!
They won't be gathering in my hometown in Calif, what with a giant navy base 8 miles out of town. The movie theater there wouldn't even show M. Moore's movies. Super right wing place. Of course they need a gathering ,but it won't happen. Think I'll mosey down town here--demo's in front of the BofA. Hell --this is Eugene!
Ah, Eugene... What a wonderful place! Please take pics of what's going down there. I miss the 5th Street Market...(and Genesis Juice Co-op) People are now demonstrating across Canada. Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver...
I'm watching the live feed from Global Revolution. You can watch it on http://www.hippy.com In NYC there's thousands marching towards Washington Square Park (in Greenwich Village). They're chanting, "The People are Rising, NO more Compromising!". Also "End the War, Tax the Rich!" It appears that the PEOPLE have finally found their VOICE... Hallelujah!
Just back from Stuttgart/Germany. I was astonished how many people showed up- we were some thousands. It was all peaceful and the police was staying in a distance, no problems there. We could even smoke, it was a great time Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany
The guy who did that poster is the same guy who did the Obama 'Hope' and 'Change' posters back around '08.
Personally I just don't know what to think. I know these corporations have stolen money, but I just don't exactly understand how. All I really understand is that that the banks are investing our money, so therefore can't make loans to us. That is really all I understand. And I am willing to admit that! I would feel wrong going to a protest if I didn't fundamentally understand what was going on or what was being protested. I don't think "Stop Corporate Greed!" is a good enough explanation for what wall street is doing. Does anyone else feel this way? Because I feel like most of these kids protesting have no clue (if maybe some idea) of what they are protesting. It really doesn't take much to go to a protest and hold up a sign that says "fuck wall street", but how many of these protesters actually know what is going on? I tried researching it, and looking into the specific investments that were made see that this is actually really complex stuff! I still feel like these protests are a good thing, if even a bit mislead. I also am somewhat unsettled by the fact that these protests are taking other turns, for example feminism, environmentalism, etc. I really just don't like how people will take this as an opportunity to protest other views as well. People should stick to one thing, the corruption in wall street! Not going off in other leftist protests as well, since I think that would only create this occupation as a giant leftist movement. We don't want it to be leftist or associated with any other political belief system! We just want to end greed in wall street! I just wish these protests would take things a bit more seriously. I mean I support them but, jamming, hoola hooping and having loud dance parties? How is this a protest??
I am with you , I think these people are just unhappy with a lot of things . I dont think it is just wall street or the banks. These people remind me of the hippies from the 60s . America was founded on a person making money , that is capitalism . If some one is against capitalism , they are not Americans. If they are unhappy because they can not get a job , then I understand. desert rat
Arrests and big protest outside of Citibank at 555 Laguardia Place in NY. It is reported that about 30 people went inside to close their accounts and the bank locked them in and called police. http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution
Am here outside St Pauls in London... The police have been trying all day to gain ground... We are allowed out but not in again... There is confusion and we are currently still trying to organise ourselves... We are sitting and occupying at the mo... Been trying to work out how to get stuff we need actually in here... I plan to stay... Just been told that if police horses approach we must sit or lay down bcos they are trained not to walk over us, but if we standing horses trained to not giv a toss... Arf... OCCUPY LONDON!!!
Just got back from Occupy Indy... VERY disappointed on the turn out, especially compared to last weekend. That's okay though! Big change happens in small numbers.
Just got back from todays protest in Buffalo NY, very nice turn out. Several hundred people attended despite wind gust to 50 mph, all day heavy rain mixed with hail and cold temps. Great time, will be back early tomorrow morning. Stay strong occupiers of the world, I can see the tide turning.:2thumbsup:
