Please, folks. Not all of the police are bad guys. We're organizing an Occupation in our town, and the local PD are helping with it. They've been in from the beginning. Badge =/= villain. Some psychos hit the news, and places like Albany where they defied the governor to defend the protestors are completely ignored. It depends on the area, and the individual cops. I've even heard that some of Oakland's Finest have earned that title, dropping their badges and grabbing picket signs mid-protest.
They aren't being ingnored here: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=438003. I even post with a special "smiley" when I find these stories.
A car is just a car man, who gives a fuck if someone hits the front of it, I definitely wouldn't, in fact I'd get out and apologise to the guy for driving the way I did.

I think oakland is close to reaching a time of critical mass. They've tried to suppress these people, and gotten increasingly violent, while trying to blame the protesters for the violence, or make it look reciprocal. And the more they try, the larger it gets, and the larger it gets, the more they try. If they'd just made peace with the protesters, there would be no problems. They didn't get black bloc wannabes running around breaking things in response to the police holding signs, it was in response to riot police assaulting people and arresting people. Trying to MAKE someone do something, short of killing them, is one of the surest ways to goad them into doing the opposite. I predict a tide of new officials at the next election in oakland, if the protesters can hold their ground.

Shooting near port a privy seems to be leading to a new attempt to shut down Frank Ogawa camp. Victim died before an ambulance could arrive. Atmosphere is tense. Lots of lit candles. I have to head back home. But it does not feel good down here. We have not heard directly that these plans are solid, but the public info officer from the city (not sure if it is Quan's office or police) has told local news stations that the mayor and head of police are " solidifying a plan to close down the encampment" according to channel 2. Have to admit, I like getting the outside world on the phone. Shalom. Send good thoughts for safety.
Police Officer's reaction to the shooting. I don't mean to be callus or anything but his reaction puzzles me. These police officers see things like this all the time... On the other hand, it could have been snapped when he was just rubbing his face or something and spun to look like something really emotional. That's a human in that uniform. One thing I learned was they don't get as immune as you'd think. Plus, likely this was one of the gangsta sorts, and we are tired of that taking lives. One layoff away from joining the camps, ya know?
Pastor Preston Williams, who stays at the InterfaithTent 24/7, witnessed the shooting from a distance of about 20 feet, but, more important, he saw what preceded it and how the camp responded. This is what he reported. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rita-nakashima-brock-ph-d/occupy-oakland-shooting_b_1087696.html
Yes, very sad about the shooting last night. I gather they haven't shutdown Occupy Oakland yet. Here's a video from the Occupy Oakland website that shows some of the people on Nov 2nd who shutdown the Port of Oakland. The Occupy Oakland website claims 100,000 people came out on Nov 2nd to protest! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLMS1QeiTP0"]OCCUPY OAKLAND GENERAL STRIKE 11/02/2011 - YouTube
Yet is the operative word. Jean Quan, who is usually a good bridge builder, this is bewildering me, did ask for voluntary dispersal. I expect a clear out attempt. Not on site today. The talk in the residential areas near me is support for OO, and a move to find winter-ready places for protesters.
So $1,000 a day is now the going rate to become the fascists Iron Boot! Yeah, this is a GOOD THING! Once the governments themselves cannot afford to repress the people anymore, we will WIN! So maybe people should come up with tactics that cost the gov't a lot of moola to repress. It seems one of the goals of the Occupy movement is to cost big businesses big money in return for their ignoring the needs of the 99%, because that is the only language they understand. So if they do the same to the government, perhaps we can bring them to their knees? Without money you can't hire MERCENARIES to oppress the 99%! All these cities drowning in debt cannot afford to keep repressing the people for long. They cannot even borrow money to do it. Of course the 1% like Goldman Sachs are throwing millions at the cities to protect themselves from the people. They won't donate money to HELP the people, but to oppress the people, they give millions! REMEMBER THAT PEOPLE! The 1% are literally making themselves into our enemies with such actions and their control over the biased MSM.
Where I live in Oakland, we see police a fair amount, and usually not in full blown fascist mode. More in let's try not to get anyone else shot mode. A few are a bit too gungho. We'd like to see our block officers again. So what we are seeing is all of Oakland's officers, who have legitimate use in these gang banging areas, all getting massed downtown. Which, granted, needs heavy presence in general. I get why the city is tense, but I think the word "overreact" applies. As for alameda charging a grand a day.... What worker (and police are unionized workers by definition) makes a grand a day? Even assuming Alameda takes half for paperwork, etc, that is a "just quit over hiring our officers" rate.
