R.I.P. Irene Cara, the musical voice of Fame and Flashdance

Irene Cara has died. A Grammy and Oscar-winning singer, songwriter, and actor, Cara achieved international acclaim as one of the stars, and chief musical voices, of the 1980 film Fame. Cara’s career blossomed in the 1980s, reaching a peak in 1983, when she wrote and recorded “Flashdance… What A Feeling,” the theme song to the Jennifer Beals hit Flashdance. Although her career slowed down in subsequent years, Cara continued to perform throughout the rest of her life. She died this week, with no cause of death disclosed. Cara was 63.

Christine wrote sweet, beautiful songs. She lent a far more mellow voice to the band.

Actress Kirstie Alley, star of the big and small screens known for her Emmy-winning role on “Cheers” and films like “Look Who’s Talking,” has died after a brief battle with cancer, her children True and Lillie Parker announced on her social media.

“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” the statement read.

A pretty tribute and looks like she relished life and intended to live it to its fullest like people rarely do, but let's also remember she supported t****. Mixed feelings here.

    RIP to a legend: Pele

Brazilian soccer icon Pelé, regarded as the sport’s greatest player, whose wizardry on the pitch helped popularize it as “the beautiful game,” died Thursday after a yearlong bout with cancer.

    He was 82.

His daughter confirmed the death on Instagram. “Everything we are is because of you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace,” Kely Nascimento wrote.

The Brazilian legend, whose real name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, helped his country win the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970, and he remains the national team’s co-scoring leader, with 77 goals in 92 matches.

I thought it was remarkable and excellent timing on Barbara's part that her death was breaking news during 20/20 Friday night. I thought that Hugh Downs would have been proud of her timing. I thought she was an incredible journalist and many, many women can thank her and owe their careers to her drive and ambition, and her competitive spirit. It also seemed quite right that her name became more famous than some of the men who did not want to work with her. Well done, Barbara.
