labelling things as forms of high and low art is generally a lot more to do with categorising your intended consumer base than it is with anything inherent in the work itself.

 

i always thought of art as the ability to use your imagination. no matter how it affects you someone is using their imagination. so even porn is art then .

 

So if I jerk off to a car advertisement - it's porn?

If a Jif label turns me on - it's porn?

They should ban vertical stripes of primary colors - children shouldn't be seeing those - I only like the wide ones, but there's probably other people out there that like the skinny ones..

 

I considered this topic because in college I studied aesthetics and almost tried to do a doctorate in it. But we discussed porn and art and the aesthetic response. The aesthetic response is one of ecstasy, whereas porn is of stasis. This all means that in art the eye, ear, etc, moves around and find inner or finer layers of the subject artwork to inspire, whereas in porn the senses, mind, hang up on one value and become static: so in the words of the law - the prurient..

I'm used to the idea of nude modeling because my mil takes life drawing classes and many are nudes.
